This is of course a big series for the Mets (as is the next one against the Twins), but I'm actually posting about other Mets news that I didn't think was worth its own thread. The Mets sent Mejia down to Binghamton in order for him to be in a regular starting rotation (Parnell was brought up as a replacement). This is remarkably intelligent, and extends a string of decisions correcting idiotic initial decisions by Manuel/Minaya - releasing Matthews, putting Perez and Maine on the DL, and now sending Mejia down.

I wonder what's going on here - could it be that someone with basic baseball knowledge has gotten in Wilpon's ear, and Wilpon is forcing the dynamic clown duo to make reasonable moves?

best two hat logos facin' off tonight

Yes, I think the Tigers D and the Mets NY (originally NY Giants, of course) are the two nicest logos.

Beltran will be making a minor league rehab start this Thursday. He might actually be coming back in July after all.

after the all star break please

hopefully he stays in the minors for a couple weeks

also do not want him coming back next week. don't want him to play on the rug in puerto rico. by the way, fascinating that grass doesn't grow there. either that or they're too lazy.

Verlander out of the game, hopefully soon to have given up 5 runs in 2 innings.

Jay Sborz hits the first 2 batters of his major league career. Barajas is fine, but hopefully Francoeur didn't get his hand hurt badly. 4-0, bases loaded, still none out.

Tejada gets robbed of a double, but Bay scores. Close the books on Verlander.

Reyes and Pagan pour it on. 8-0 Mets, and Mr. Sborz is pitching more like s'mores. Wright singles, and he is out: 7 batters, 2 HBP, 2 outs, 3 hits.

Well, Niese really crapped the bed here, and Nieve didn't help. Pretty bad when you can't even complete 5 innings when given a 10-0 lead in the third inning.

Jerry Manuel is a fucking idiot. I don't care that the Mets have a a 5 run lead right now. He should have never let Niese pitch after an hour rain delay and then a 30 minute inning. At the very least, he could have taken him out after Jackson hit the double to make it a 11-3 game. Then leaves him in to load the bases and give up another run. I know they're trying to get him a win, but Jesus Christ, it was painfully obvious he should have been out much earlier.

Over an hour between pitches didn't help Niese.

That is true, so I guess I should have saved the comment for Manuel, not him.

Rain delay really threw a monkey wrench into this game...Mets bats showed up though, and I think Niese would've been fine without the delay, but quite a weird game.
