Before i get blasted, without a doubt LT > TJ. LT is just so much more versatile and can make runs jones can't. The addition of LT has helped Mark tremendously. however, a lot of people were saying he's done.he's not. him and jamal charles remind me of us last year with jones and greene. If we had kept jones, we'd still have a pretty good team and running attack. However i don't think we win as many games as we do because of the type of runs LT has been able to break off. i'm glad he didn't break down and is still doing pretty well. As annoying as it was to see him do his stupid stutter step go nowhere move quite a bit, he always got the tough yards and was consistent. I think i only remember seeing TJ fumble once in his jet career on a side note, i wasn't a believer in that chiefs team for the first 3 or 4 weeks but they play a gutsy brand of football. I'm sold on them...maybe not top 3 but possibly top 5 in the AFC. pretty good D, matt cassell is a decent QB (not great, but pretty decent), and their o line and rushing game have been solid. And the new arrowhead is a nightmare to play at. that place is the loudest stadium i've ever heard
I couldn't agree more, TJ is still good, but LT is even better. Plus, when you factor in the salary the Jets are paying LT relative to what TJ was owed, it makes the deal an even a bigger net gain for the Jets.
NFL section.. this thread will turn into gorilla warfare. btw these type of threads will get you burned. what's da point? LT can catch footballs TJ couldn't for us.
And Thomas Jones still can't run away from anybody as shown in that 80 yard gallop. Nothing has changed.
I don't think TJ's October-November was ever expected to be a problem. Let's see how he does in December-January.
1 run for 80 yards and 19 runs after that for 35 yards, I know they all count, but we have made out so much better with LT and why do we have these threads after one good game, where was this thread before his 1 run of 80 yards?
I don't give a damn if TJ runs for 1500 yards this year. And the next year... And the next year... Close your eyes, click your heels three times, and say: "SCREEN GAME" /thread
He was hurt down the stretch last year but we didn't hear any complaining from him. I never got the thomas Jones hate when he was here, he produced for us and was a good leader for a young QB last year. I wanted him back but I was fine w/ getting LT as I felt they'd play similar roles as 2nd guy behind Greene. I expected LT to be better behind our Ol but he has gone above and beyond that where he is our best RB. I think we are better w/ the move we made for LT but I wish Thomas well and I hope this keeps up for both players.
Using that line of thinking I guess Shonn Greene didn't have a good game at SD last year in the playoffs, if you take away his 53 yard run he only averages 3.4 YPC. It's ok to say former Jets(especially ones who conduscted themselves w/ nothing but class) are doing well.
The Jets should have kept Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, Danny Woodhead, Chauncy Washington and Kerry Rhodes. We'd be 9-0 if we did.
I'm glad Thomas Jones used his 1.3 ypc in the Championship game to beat the Colts, oh wait it did not win us the game, with your line of thinking all running styles work until the big one is made. I would take SG 3.4 any day over TJ 1.3, it's the whole picture Junc, a RB who gives you small YPC avg leaves the offense in tough spots on 3rd downs as opposed to the RB who gives you the bigger YPC average.
Can anyone read? Seriously? will we have a replay of the leon washington thread? That 70 yard run sure didn't help KC, right? Jones is averaging 4.7 YPC this year, take away that 70 yd run and it's still 4 YPC. Not bad for a washed up player and you do realize that the YPC is an average, right? if a guy averages 4.0 it doesn't mean he gets 4 every single carry, there may be long runs, there may be negative runs. The bottom line is Jones can still play and the decision to move on appears like it has been a good move for all parties involved.
This is all irrelevant. Whether he's good or not isn't the issue. It wouldn't have been wise to give him the multi-year deal he wanted to stay. Not in this season or any season. The Jets did the right thing letting him go. -X-
The Jets did the right thing letting him go. When they gave him an extension it was under the assumption that he was gone in 2010. No way was he ever getting that bonus. Thomas Jones is a very solid, durable running back and a team leader. He's an average running back at best.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Thomas Jones. I would give him a standing ovation when he returns to the Meadowlands.
TJ and LT can't be compared, and I certainly wouldn't suggest Jones and Charles is like Jones and Greene. Jones is an ideal complement for Charles just like Greene and LT complement each other. It's not a matter of skill, it's a matter of skill sets. The Jets wanted to pair a pass catching back with Greene. Jones didn't fit the mold. Hence, he was gone. I thought his production would drop off a bit more than it has, but he's been solid for two straight games now. Both teams made out well in the end.
