Hey, I know a lot of you have no problem that we're sitting on our hands as free agency begins and that we can and should build through the draft. That's cool. With our four picks on day one (and no fourth rounder in day 2) we'll be able to land with no problem a:

    -Starting right offensive tackle
    -Starting defensive tackle
    -Starting running back
    -Starting corner back
    -Starting fullback
    -Starting/depth at defensive end
    -Pass rush specialist
    -Depth at linebacker

All this, an we will only have spent a small fraction of the $25 plus million we have under the cap. Sounds like a good deal for Woody Johnson. I really hope that right tackle we land in the fourth round can block Adalius Thomas twice a year for the Patriots. Go Draft!

sorry, that wont happen. IMO our 1st round pick could start for us and maybe one of the 2nd round picks but thats about it

whats so funny about that? do you think the patriots became the world champions because they spent all their money on free agents? no. they had plenty of cap room the past few years.

JetFighter aint really that far off, IF your team philosophy is to build through the draft. You need to draft 3 or 4 STARTERS every year. Hows that? The average life expentancy of an NFL player is like 5 or 6 years, on a team that has 40 or so starters or active backups (O/D/ST). So "on average", you need to draft 3 or 4 starters every draft to keep up with attrition. Did I mention free agency? If we loose to FA, but build through the draft, add 1 or 2 more rookies that need to come in every year and start or actively back up. Brilliant.

frankly, for being sarcastic, you're not that far off. I think we can get a starting DL and OL player and a RB to complement Leon. We can get a starting FB if we want. And I think we can do that while still retaining our third rounder. And there's plenty of starting caliber players available in the third. Sure, that leaves us with some questions, most notably, who's going to rush the passer, but maybe that person is on the roster and maybe that will ahve to wait for the next draft. I don't think that means our FO sucks by any stretch of the imagination.

I guess it was probably sarcasm. Actually, last year was a great draft for the Jets. One of the better ones in many years. It will be a challenge just to equal it.

I really do think this will be the best draft ever. You've listed 8 needs for the Jets and then you say there are 4 first day picks. OK - but then there are 4 second day picks. So the Jets could address every need in the draft. I'm not going to list every 6th and 7th rounder and undrafted guy who became an NFL star but they are out there in spades. Meanwhile, the Jets will make free agency signings to address the team needs - they just won't break the bank doing it. How many free agents have OFFICIALLY been signed so far? According to ESPN, 10-12 out of something like 250. Calm the fuck down.

I thought the goal of sarcasm was to be funny? If the Patriots sign 1-2 high profile Free Agents in 3 years I am not going to be crying in my beer because we missed the 1-2 high profile guy they did sign.

What about all the players they have let walk? This FO has made it a priority to keep our young players here and build through the draft. What a shame the FO did not live up to the mental masturbation of this forum.

Yes, I was trying to be sarcastic. It would be great to fill a need or two through the dreaded "free agency". I'm all for character guys and the draft, but what's the point of having 20 plus million in cap money to play with if you don't spend it? Look at all the big players in free agency thus far, they all were in similar cap friendly situations as the Jets. What are we going to spend our money on? Extensions for Hobson and Rhodes? Let's address at least one of our needs in free agency

There's no way to calm down the folks who want the Jets to be a rotisserie football team so they have something interesting to talk about over lunch.

The draft is boooooring and many weeks away.

Wow what a mess of a post. Please allow me to retort.............. Please tell me how any of these players were free agents the Patriots lost? Please find some source material for that..............

They were all cut while under contract! So back to the chicken little drawing board!

It better be if we want to keep up with New England. They already went out and filled 2 of their biggest needs in 1 day of F/A with the signings of Thomas & Brady.

Good luck to Tangini keeping up with New Enlgand when we bring in guys like David Bowens, Chris Brown & T.J. Duckett. Whose next? Ron Dayne? Sammy Morris?

They've cut away some of the aging rot on their roster.

Dillon is gone because the Pats did not want to sign him beyond next season. Bruschi retired (or appears to be retiring) because he lost a step to the stroke and is no longer a dominant player. He decided to go out without being shown the door, which was a very classy thing to do. Graham is gone because he wants a good contract and Belichik won't pay him to block and catch the odd pass.

Viniateri went last year because Belichik was not going to pay top dollar for FG's kicked in past years regardless of how key they were. Law and Milloy went because they wanted big contracts and Belichik thinks DB's are trainable easily in his system.

The Patriots have vigorously pared their roster year after year to make sure it stays young and vibrant. This year they reversed course with the Thomas signing. My guess is that Belichik's run in New England is about done and he wants to win the Super Bowl next year and then write a new deal somewhere else. The Pats are in decline at that point.
