this loss is on the players not the coaches

i know the first reaction of everyone here is to blame the coaches. how exactly did coaching cost the jets this game? was it the coaching that caused the o-line to forget how to pass block for the whole game? was it the coaching that caused the receivers to never find any space on the few times when favre had time to look downfield? was it the coaching that caused favre to force a throw into coverage while in the redzone?

the coaches did what they could yesterday. the jets ran for over 200 yards yesterday i believe. if not it was well above 150. now you would think when they could run the ball that effectively someone on the receiving corps could find a little space to make a play. however cotchery became an invisible man. coles only had 2 catches. stuckey made one play in the 4th quarter, and of all people brad smith almost won the game if he could have avoided one last shoe string tackle.

i know, or at least i hope none of you are blaming sutton for the loss. the defense did everything they could yet again to keep the offense in the game. now i said to blame the players but i guess im wrong on that too. blame the offense, i cannot think of one player on defense who cost the jets the game. in fact without the performance of everyone on defense the jets lose that game even worse.

now the offense, the blame falls onto the offensive lines inability to pass block. favre not finding anyone open if anyone ever did come open during the game. favre forcing two bad interceptions... again. the receivers taking the day off. now the o-line gets some credit for finally figuring out how to run block. and the one bright spot on offense all day was thomas jones. i think we can all agree that anyone saying the man does not run hard was a little off base with those claims.

one half of the offense was not working yesterday. that is the reason for the loss. if the passing game could have found any consistency at all during the game the jets win by a touchdown or two. now the jets will need to figure out how to make up for this horrible loss against a better team than the raiders.

also i will add, what is the common denominator in two of the three losses this year? the special teams was taken out of the game. the pats and raiders both did a great job of limiting the jets opportunities on special teams. kickoffs were sailing out of the endzone, and when they weren't washington was swallowed up and the 20. the punter for the raiders also did a great job. pinning the jets deep, great hangtime limiting leons ability to make anything happen on those returns as well. again the coaches can't stop the other team from playing flawlessly on special teams, which is a big part of the jets game.

this was a tough loss for everyone to watch, but take a step back and see that this one is on the players. the coaches can only do so much, in the end its on the players to come out and perform and execute. when the entire team does not come out and execute correctly there is only so much the coaching staff can do.

I thought Schotty called a terrible game. When you're rushing at about 6 yards a clip and have a great play action passer you should at least run a little play action. Run first down, run second down, pass 3rd down - sound familiar?

Of course the players have to execute too and they didn't.

i guess ill agree that some play action could have been used in the game. actually now that i think about your correct, that was sorely missing during the game. why was there no play action called? still i dont see how this loss goes to the coaches. there were enough opportunities to get at least one more score. and the players left those chances on the field

The pass protection meltdown in the beginning of the game was a direct result of the coaching. Favre was taking hits because we were spread 5 wide and the Raiders were blitzing, which means we couldn't pick up the blitzers.

The formations were painfully obvious too. That's coaching. In OT, we called the most predictable plays out of the most predictable formations I may have ever seen. That's coaching.

Our blitz schemes were vanilla at best, and once again, Russell had time to scan the field on 3rd Down because we continue to drop 8 into coverage, hoping that the opposing QB will force something, when, aside from Warner's one force pick to Revis, they haven't. That's coaching.

Ultimately, the players have to execute. But if they're not put in the proper positions to succeed, then what difference does it make? In other words, what good is it if the players execute shitty gameplans?

    Hello hindsight analysis.

Do you how much you're assuming just to find a way to blame the coaching staff?

This loss is on the Jets. Thats coaching staff AND players. I mean if we're in 5 WR sets and they're blitzing, then get rid of it quickly cause *someone* should be open. No? That wouldn't work?

And this is all before you consider the "other team." I realize I'm being my usually not-as-smart-as-you self when I say this...but maybe we were just outplayed? Maybe it's *just* that? Maybe a loss is just a loss and not a sign that shit needs to be overhauled?

Iunno...but if Jets fans are this adamant about what the coaching staff "should have done" then maybe we should petition to be the first fan-coached team in league history. I'm sure that'd make us dynasty worthy.

It's fuckin pathetic how people are reacting to this loss. We went across the country and got beat on a record setting field goal late in overtime...but the seasons over because of it.

look no matter the formation the line could not block worth a shit. how come with the raiders blitzing not one receiver could find any type of space to maneuver? coles managed to get open like 3 times i think. other than that how come our receivers could not get open at all? i know you will continue to blame the coaching for every loss, and then give the players all the credit for a win. its just stupid. the passing game was flat today, i dont care what great scheme the coaches could have come up with. the passing game did not come to play yesterday. no brilliant play calling would have changed that. it was a pathetic display by the area of the team that was supposed to be the one thing we could count on.

1st and 3rd Quarter again this team was poor. That suggets game plan and half time adjustments aren't that good. This has been a trade mark of this team this year.

The Raiders corners absolutely owned our WRs yesterday...mostly because of Schotty's stupid "don't get separation" philosophy.

Apparently we knew we couldn't get the ball to the WR before the game started and I'm guesing they thought we could run the ball between the tackles and throw to the TE in the middle of the field. Why start out in a spread that probably got Favre hurt during the first series of the game?

For the past year and a half, we've been outplayed an awful lot. So maybe it's our lack of talent.

But, who's in charge of overseeing the talent and putting the roster together? Who makes the decision to put a player like Eric Smith on the field? Ah, yes, it must have been that vote the players took to determine those decisions.

the raiders scored 13 points. good call on making eric smith who while not a great player, did nothing to hurt the jets yesterday. and the talent on this team is here. they just didn't come to play yesterday. because the cowboys got outplayed by the rams yesterday does that mean the talent they have just isn't very good? look i know you are putting this on the coaches no matter what. but someone on the field has to make something happen.

Well it did work and put points on the board didn't it?

I mean it's easy to knock it *now* that we've lost...but we hadn't scored on our first drive in 10 straight games until yesterday.

Honestly I thought they were coached pretty well. Decent play calling, but you're right, several players choked.

Yea...why couldn't those idiots trade for Ed Reed or something, right?

LOL...the Jets roster talent has only gone up yet it's time to complain about this teams talent too...nothing's really untouchable after a loss...everyone and everything is a problem right...

I'm not putting this ALL on the coaches.

But I'm keep hearing this same excuse from the same people, "oh, it's nothing, we were just outplayed." Again and again and again. Eventually if the players are getting outplayed it's because (a) there's no talent, which is a result of the personnel implemented by the coaching staff and GM, (b) the gameplans suck and there aren't any in-game adjustments or (c) the talent is there and the players not put in the proper positions to succeed or (d) the talent is there and the players stop responding to the coach (see the Mets record under Willie Randolph from last year to the point at which he was canned).

When you're outplayed time and time again, at some point, it becomes moreso the coaches' faults.

Well YOU keep saying after each loss that it's just a simple matter of being outplayed. Since that keeps happening and it's not so much the coaches' fault, then there must be a lack of talent, right?

And I asked this in the other thread, but you ignored it...

Please make a case of why we'll win AT LEAST 7 of the next 10 games to hopefully get into the Playoffs.

i know i am not calling yesterday nothing. i just couldn't stand it when i woke up this morning and saw the front page. the owner of the site has a huge thread FIRE MANGINI!!!! it was bad game, the jets should have won. there are a lot of games that certain teams are supposed to win. this is not just a problem for the jets. when teams travel from one coast to the other stuff like this happens. how do you think the jets were able to beat up so badly on the cardinals? and then cardinals were able to beat up on the bills? going from east to west, or west to east coasts is a much bigger deal than it gets made out to be. its not an excuse im not trying to make any excuses for yesterday. the loss is inexcusable. this happens to teams every year. this is football. the season is far from over this did not make or break the season, it is a significant setback, but there is time to rebound.

now the jets are going to need to do to some other team what the raiders did to the jets. maybe against tennesee idk. but there will be some games coming up in which the other team is expected to win, and because the jets blew this game, they will need to be the team that comes in and surprises everyone.

    Uh, no.

I have no idea how you're so concrete about a team you've seen play 6 whole games...maybe there is no problem and we just lost? It does happen. A loss isn't a knock on a teams character...which many seem to treat it as.
