It certainly isn't just you - just look at the comments on that article. Most people think the guy is an idiot. It would make an interesting sociology PhD thesis to try to understand the bizarre love some people have for athletes who are paid to work in their cities. For it to happen in New Orleans, which still hasn't come close to completely recovering from Katrina (the population is still 25% lower than it was before the hurricane, and it is still 40% lower in St. Bernard Parish), is truly ridiculous.
