Things to fix Dropped passes; way too many. Fitz doesn't throw a rocket so that's not a problem.. His throws can be too high, too low , too far in front or too far back. Maybe the receivers aren't concentrating, maybe they don't look it all the way in, maybe they are ready to run before the ball is fully secured. Maybe they just need new gloves. I think it's a combination of some or all of these factors…but it has to stop. Tackling: The D line doesn't have a big problem but I'd like to see more wrap-ups, with no forward motion after contact. The Secondary has a bigger problem, allowing too many yards after contact. And it's not limited to one player. Penalties: The O-line should never be caught in an illegal formation. There are still an excessive illegal motions for -5 yards. The Secondary has to live with the new NFL protocol of call everything, so there isn't much you can do here.
The offensive line needs to be redone. Brick had a good run but it looks like his time is coming to an end at Left tackle. Breno isn't very good and we need another guard. Capernter was a nice find for us and Mangold is still going strong. But it's time to make the O-Line a top priority again this offseason. We need to fill 3 spots IMO.
100%. Build a line like the Cowboys. Get a dynamic RB to compliment Ivory. Get another play making WR. Or trust that D Smith takes the next step. _
Yeah, I would have no problem if the Jets decided to address the O-Line in the 1st and 2nd round of this upcoming draft. Especially with so much average to below average play at the QB position, it's even more important to give wheoever we have back there as much time as possible to make plays and/or take the pressure off of him by being able to run the football consistently well.
I'll take whoever the best lineman is coming out. Guard or tackle. Left tackle would obviously be ideal though.
D Brick was my draft choice based on his ability and we both were in Freeport, NY at that time. He spent some of his money to outfit the Freeport High School football team with all new equipment. Great gift. Unfortunately he is getting old and weary. I see him beat by guys that he had no trouble containing two years ago. I'll have to look for a replacement and could use some help. I haven't been following college since we moved to Fla.
No doubt Ferguson is a nice guy LV, however this is a what have you done for me lately business and he's not cutting it
I get the D'Brick criticism but you guys have to realize that if he was getting $2M a year we'd all be very happy with the bargain. It's the expectations of superstar LT that he's not living up too at this point. Fitzpatrick has been sacked 11 times all year and has had the time to throw 20 TD passes, most of them in the red zone. That's not a dying LT, just not a great one.
I agree. Mac must find Brick's replacement in the upcoming draft, even if he starts at RT for a year then moves over to LT. Both Brick and Breno need to be replaced as does Winters.
It's more than that. He has never been very good at run blocking, and he's gotten worse. People talk about the Jets being predictable and always running to the right or straight up the gut and rarely to the left. The reason for that is Brick. He's getting to be a liability. As for being happy with the bargain, maybe you would, but not me. As long as it doesn't destroy the team's salary structure, or the player greedy and continually hold out, I don't care how much they make. I'd rather pay $12 million per and have a topflight LT that can run block as well as pass protect, rather than have a bargain at $2 million who can't do either with any great success any more. He's been a great Jet and very good player, but it's time for him to take a seat on the bench or go.
I don't see D'Brick as a liability at this point I just don't see him as a particular strength. J.J. Watt has made a lot of guys look old and washed up in his short career. That's all that was against the Texans. The Jets are still running fairly well and Fitzpatrick is getting time to throw the ball. Replacing D'Brick with an average LT wouldn't change any of that because he's already an average LT. Getting a great young LT to replace him would make a difference but that's not what we have available right now and it may not be what's on tap in the 1st or 2nd round next year either. Draft a LT and let him compete with D'Brick in training camp next year. The answer will become pretty clear by the time that process is over.
Brick is fine? At times he's been okay, at others he's been the worst part of the line. At the most important position at that. And do you know what kind of money he's set up to make? One of the first moves this off season should be to deal with his contract.
I see lots of great suggestions however, I haven't as of yet, seen any time frames proposed for all of these upgrades... How many drafts do you give Macc to get this done? 2? perhaps 3. If you're willing to give Macc 3 years, you must be willing to give Bowles the same amount of time to both revamp the roster and learn how to navigate the big chair.
