With all message boards for any team there is going to be certain attitudes or assumptions depending on the team, the personalities of the board, or a combination of the two. One of the most prevalent of the TGG board, is what I'll call the Vernon Gholston effect. I understand that game film and production at the college level are probably the two most important determining factor in whether a player is going to succeed in the NFL. But I think after the bust that Gholston has become, even more so then in other places, the combine and athletic ability may be dismissed too quickly here. The term "workout warrior" is thrown around often and in some cases it fits and in some I think it may be overused. There are going to be guys like Gholston who blow up at the combine and have their stock soar to undeserved levels. But that same year we drafted Keller and his stock vaulted him to the first round largely because of his combine. Guys like Chris Johnson made a name for themselves at the combine and have shown it's justified. Taylor Mays isn't a great prospect because of his gametape and his apparent lack of instincts, not because he runs well, lifts weights like an Olympian and that's what Gholston did and he sucks so Mays is going to. So with the combine over and individual workouts starting, I think it's important to reiterate that all these things are to be used as tools, but cannot be the defining attribute, good or bad.
