There is just no way that the Jets will select Marcus Mariota this upcoming draft in April. The Jets already have two qualified starters in this league on their roster. Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick will compete for the starting position sometime during the training camps this summer. The New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has already expressed that Geno Smith is already "years ahead of Mariota" in terms of systematically developed traits. The Jets already put two years of development into Geno Smith and they are not prepared to ditch him just yet. Todd Bowles has also stated that the Jets are labeling Geno Smith as their number one guy for next season until he starts to prove otherwise. The new regime believes that they will have the right systems in place to help Geno Smith flourish in such a critical time in his career. Do not expect Mariota to be selected by the Jets at the NFL draft in April.

The New York Jets have to many other obvious needs they need to address in the draft. The OL is something that just needs some rebuilding. With Brick only becoming more of a liability with his salary cap number and aging issues, it is vital we address his replacement sooner rather than later. The LT position is arguably the most important position on the offensive side of the ball aside from the QB himself. If Geno Smith is going to shine, he must be kept upright. Don't be completely shocked if the Jets select one of the elite OL prospects at pick #6 of the draft

Something that will absolutely need to be addressed in the draft is a young player capable of making big plays down the stretch. Now at pick #6 the Jets are basically guaranteed to land either Amari Cooper or Kevin White which would be ideal to the Jets efforts to stockpile young talent. The Jets are only one Brandon Marshall injury away into becoming the same mediocre receiving core they had to withstand last year. Do not be alarmed at all if Commissioner Roger Godell announces that Amari Cooper or Kevin White will be wearing green come draft day.

Lastly, The Jets could also benefit greatly from selecting one of the elite pass rushing prospects with the #6 overall pick. With such a high pick in the first round, the Jets are also guaranteed into selecting a home-run of a pass rusher. Imagine a pure pass rusher getting after the quarterback with Jets Elite Secondary? It would give the pass rusher an extra moments time that would be the difference in getting the sack. Adding that young edge player would definitely push the Jets into being crowned the most feared defense in the entire NFL. Todd Bowles loves his blitzers, so why not give him what he wants at the draft.

The Draft is only a month away and while I just dissected a majority of the Jets needs on their roster, truly anything could change in that month span. Knowing that Mock Drafts are just pure speculation, it is always interesting to analyze where the draftees will be selected. I have a good idea of who the Jets will select in the draft, but hey, what do I know?

I went with pass rusher based mostly on the fact that I anticipate both Mariota and at least one of the top WRs to be off the board and there being several good pass rushers rated pretty highly. Even if we don't get the top one the second or third drafted pass rusher could end up being the best and be a big impact player for this team.

Give me one of Beasley, Fowler, Cooper, White and I'd be happy

There's no OT worthy of that high a selection.

The fact that Bowles loves his blitzes is more of a reason for us not to draft an elite OLB. You don't need to be an elite player to get sacks if you're being disguised in blitz packages.

I don't think you could be more wrong about Mariota and the Jets. No team wins consistently without a quality QB. You've twisted Bowles' comments and read into them what you wanted to. Just because they draft Mariota doesn't mean that they will ditch Geno. That's absurd. If they take Mariota and he develops as expected, they'll still need a backup, and Mariota may need to sit for a year, and Geno will stand a very good chance of seeing significant action if not starting many or most of those games. For you to say for us not to expect Mariota to be selected by the Jets is simply laughable.

The truth is I want a QB specificly Mariota BUT he won't be there.. I would like a WR if he's not there Cooper/White BUT I'm not sure they do that... So in the end it's probably going to be a pass rusher...

I'm seeing this a lot lately. Who do you think will draft or trade up him before 6?

I think the Titans will take him. They would be crazy to go with Mett over him IMO.

If MM is ther at 6 there is a shot we take him and let him develope as the 2 or 3 for a year. IN today's nfl a player picked this high should have an imidiate impact. But, MM is a few years away and I think this would be a wise move if selected. I don't want him though, give me white, cooper, fowler in that order.

Hardly a few years away, maybe one and even that depends on what team he ends up with.

Luckily at #6 the Jets should be looking at a great prospect at a position of need. It will either be one of the OLBs or WRs assuming that Mariota is off the board.

I think any one of Fowler, Beasley, Cooper or White would make most Jet fans happy.

Personally, I'd prefer an OLB. I think the value drop off into the second at that position is much greater than at WR. IMO, Beasley/Dorsett or Coates is a better haul than say White/Eli Harold.

For every Aaron Rodgers there are a dozen more "developmental" QB prospects that either never end up seeing the field or suck when they do. Anyone ever consider the possibility that Aaron Rodgers was just good and that sitting early really had nothing to do with how good he is? I know he slid to down to GB but he could have just as easily been the first overall pick of his draft. The choice to pick Alex Smith over him was not an easy one at the time for the 49ers. How far away Mariota is from starting should strictly based on how quickly he can perform the physical and mental aspects of the scheme he will be asked to run. It can take just his first mini camp or 10 years; no one knows. That's why it's best not to go in with the preconceived idea that he must sit a minimum number of games. You can get yourself an insurance policy in the form of a vet but in the end you should let what you see on the practice and/or game field make the determination on when he's ready.

If Mariota and Cooper are gone, i think we'll end up picking an Olineman......and i'm fine with that.
it's possible they may try to trade back a few slots first. but if it's a player they really like, why even chance that..

Peat would be my choice, but Scherff and Collins are very interesting too..
