Essentially they traded: Wilkerson for Johnson Petty for Bridgewater Davis for Williamson Johnson for Long Forte for Crowell Santos for Catanzaro And lost ASJ..... Be careful to those of you who want to trade up. This is still among the worst rosters in the league coached by the worst coach in the league.
I’d take Teddy Bridgewater with one leg right after he suffered the injury over a healthy two legged Bryce Petty.
OK Jethro. Are you aiming to receive an award from TGG for the most misguided and erroneous post of 2018? Wilkerson was the classic case of addition by subtraction, we gained a bunch by not replacing him , Forte was on his last leg...and Petty and Johnson well, how low can the bar go and still beat that? .
We're better. But it's only slightly better. If we hadn't re-signed Claiborne, I would have said we're worse right now.
That isn't saying anything at all, Petty shouldn't even ever been in the league, this team has to move up and take a QB.
I think if you applied for a name change your outlook in life and the jets may start improving, hell you wouldn't have to always look on the downside of the jets at all times to keep that unhappy image going. How the hell would we be worse off than last season without the Claiborne signing taken into affect ? Upgraded at qb and at RB, Wilkinson replaced, a new number 1 cb, a better centre, a side ways switch on Davis and again with the kicker. Worse ????
We upgraded at backup QB, I think we've downgraded at RB, Wilkerson severely underperformed for two years, but he's still better than his current replacement (nobody), We downgraded at tight end and kicker, We probably upgraded slightly at middle linebacker, No, I don't know if the center is any good, Yes, cornerback position has improved.
Agree we may or may not be better.we will see how these guys do...but for FA the Jets are a hard sell for reasons you just mentioned ..so other than Truman J we have not been spectacular The Draft OTOH is THE ANSWER since rookies are happy to play..period Moving up and getting a QB makes the team BETTER not worse ..eventually TB will be gone but for Gods sakes draft a QB and good players for the future
It's ALL about the QB pick with this year's #1 draft pick. If MacCagnan hits on the pick we're golden the QB will make everyone look good. If he drafts another Petty/Hacknberg we'll be effed for years to come because to me it doesn't look like MacCagnan can pick players/build a team/attract free agents to overcome not-elite QB play.
CB is way improved. Johnson is a stud and Claiborne should improve his performance with Johnson on the other side taking on #1 WR. QB is improved likely. Petty and Sack are pathetic. I'll take Teddy over those two ejvery day. LB is improved. Davis had a career year and at 28+ no guarantees he performs on same level. Willamson is dang good. Conflicting reports on his pass coverage.. personally, I'm not concerned about that. C is improved. Johnson was just too weak. Long just needs to stay healthy. RB is improved. We are younger and a young Crowell is a better runner than an over the hill Forte. K is unknown. Def Line is weak, but if you want my 2 cents.. the league is a passing league anymore. While pressure can be nice, sacks are at a minimum anymore. League leaders get 10-12 a year, that's not even 1 per game. Let alone 1 per half... Passes defended are a FAR more relevant performance on the field. Sacking the QB has ALMOST become a thing of the past.
QB, WR and OL should be high priorities in the draft. Edge rusher would be nice as well. All in all we are better on paper at least than we were last year.
I'm an admitted pessimist and I think the roster leaves a lot to be desired but literally every line you listed seems like an upgrade. Just sayin lol
Well with 90M to spend and the number 6 pick anything short of a winning record will be a disaster for the team and the people running it. I think it looks better but let's see how they manage to screw up the draft like they always do.
No mandate other than be competitive and show some improvement. All the Jets have to do is improve or not be worse than 5-11 and all is well.. Careful not to trip over the bar..

Williamson is as good as and has more upside than Davis Bridgewater is better than Petty and Hack combined Still waiting on ASJ and Mo Wilk replacements, but both are replaceable And they haven't even drafted yet
