Against NE, a few years ago -- home game -- cant remember what year -- Brady must have run the qb sneak for a first down against us 4 times. Now, I know Chad is not Brady -- but in our desire to emulate and immitate NE thats what we get. A year or two ago, I started a thread called the "Fade". We just love that play. On fourth down, you CANNOT run that play -- and we have more than once. It is a do or die play -- and as Moose pointed out yesterday -- why run a play on fourth down that takes everyone else out of the play. Terrible play calling and Im not sure if its was Schott who did this last year or Hackett previously.
I had no problem with the sneak. The fade was ridiculous. Just too low a percentage play when you only need one yard.
Seems like 90% of Chads passes are fades. And how many of his passes in the end zone haven't been fades? All he throws are fades in the end zone. Whatevr happened to spotting an open reciever crossing in the back of the end zone and zipping the ball to him. I have grown to hate fades.
I think the original poster is remembering the fades thrown by Bollinger at the end of the game vs San Diego in 2005 when the Jets fought back to 31-26
I think thats correct. I dont hate the fade -- i think he has thrown that for a td a few times already this year. On fourth down -- especially when a yard gets you four more downs -- you CANNOT call that play.
Chad throws that Fade because he can not do anything else! It is basically a short hail mary that does not work against teams with good Db's as we saw yesterday. The Eagles put 8 in the box on 3rd and 4th down and dared Chad to throw. He failed once again!
There wasn't anything wrong with the sneak but that fade was just a horrible play call , im starting to wonder about these play calls alot more then i was previously.
I don't think the sneak was a bad play. It works 90% of the time from anywhere on the field, while handing the ball off in confined space has more moving parts for what you need, and TJ had just been stuffed for no gain. I DO think that the fade was moronic. I know what Schottenheimer was thinking - that the line would be stacked again, leaving Coles 1-on-1 and free, but so many things have to be done to perfection for that to work. Percentage-wise, running TJ, or even another sneak, would have been safer and smarter. This game was lost back in July, when we decided that Pete Kendall, jerk though he may have been, was not needed. Two shots at a half-yard both stuffed, and no confidence that a third attempt would do it. That's not as much a play calling problem as it is a TALENT problem.
The thing is, we went shotgun and the D didn't even have to respect the run. It also makes it a worse angle for the corner fade. I wouldn't have a big a problem if they were in a running formation. Also, Chad throws one of the best fades in the red zone in the NFL. Even though everyone knew it was coming, it hit coles in the hands.
The one handed grab by Chris baker against the dolphins. Basically a receiver bailing him out on another bad throw ball!
That was a great throw. Any where else and it was picked. The only outcomes of that pass was a great catch or incomplete out of bounds. If you whip him everytime he screws up, you have to pat him on the back on great plays. What do you expect in the endzone, a player with nobody around him, it ain't going to happen.
Yes, it would. Jones 7 yards deep. 3 Wide. TE next to RT, Smith in the slot Cotchery wide, coles alone on the left. At the snap as JOnes takes the fake, Smith runs in front of baker (Running diagonally away from the RT), and Cotchery takes two step towards the post, Pennigton hits Baker as he passes behind the screen by cotchery. They dont run ANY version of that play. Watch NE. or Watch Indy (NE Copied alot of tom moores stuff this offseason, probably when they decided to go get WR's)
I still don't understand why we throw so many outs. Moose made the comment yesterday that if Pennington's arm is weak, why do we call out routes across the field this is the throw that takes arm strength. I think our passing scheme sucks and even if we have a running game it does not work off it but seems to be a separate part of the offense.
the fade is CP's game......he neither has the footwork nor the arm to rely on the middle of the field in the redzone/endzone. a good example of the limitations of the offense with CP at the helm. jil
It was a very similar play though, pretty much a loft to the back of the EZ.... That's all he can throw into the EZ
