I am sure there will be a lot of posts today, but I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed our win yesterday. It is well-known how much I hate the Patriots. While we didn't embarrass the Pats in our win, we definitely won the game convincingly. It has been awhile since we have been able to knock off a good team early in the season. Our defense is the real deal and I think it is going to get better. They just look like they're on a mission to punish every game. They will make the opposition think twice all during practice week because everyone on the opposition's offense know's that some heavy hits are going to be doled out. Let me also say that it was great to see us stay with the defense that got us there when Brady and company had the ball with 2:30 or so left in the game. How many times over the decades have we seen our D go into prevent and a capable offense goes marching straight down the field? Too many times. We didn't let up on the pedal. We kept after Brady and we seemed to get even more psyched up for the challenge. It was if everyone could sense the smell of victory; the opponent was in a tough spot and we didn't let them come up for air. That was huge!!!!! Always finish what you started. Sanchez continues to impress. He has all the tools. I think we really have ourselves a very good QB. Sure there are some things he still needs to get comfortable with, but he is way ahead of the learning curve and does not look like a rookie. I knew the first half was going to be tough and I was not surprized at the difficulty the Jets had on Offense. They showed a lot of poise out there to be able to stick with things even though we were struggling with it a bit. We also had horrible field position for the better part of the first half and that didn't help either. We are off to a great start this year at 2-0 and I am sure almost anybody before the season would have signed for a guaranteed 1-1. Next up, the Titans. Can you beleive we are the early favorites - I thought I was seeing things. One surely has to agree that if we keep playing like we are, we should be able to win. And, we can play with anybody!!!!!!!! As for Vernon Gholston - I think he was inactive. Inactive, he was. He is not making the most out of his opportunity and this has me very concerned. I think the bustometer is starting to tilt toward major bust. That aside, enough things are going right that I don't care about whether VG contributes or not. We are exciting to watch again and it is a feeling I haven't had for a long time. Even last year, I was pumped, but I new Favre was clearly not going to be here very long so I think it was a blessing that things panned out as they did. We now have a man that is capable of being our QB for a heck of a long time. Gotta love them Jets...........
agree GH..... just imagine the D 2-3 years out with a couple offseasons under the belt.....combine that with sanchez having 3 years of experience and you are setting yourself up for a major run..... gotta keep the cornerstones around sanchez in place - some of them are here and we know who they are - others are not here yet but will arrive in the next 2 offseasons. we now see the benefits of an aggressive defense with key players at certain positions.... NT, CB, ILB....we all put up with the tampa 2 crap from edwards and several failed attempts to get talent at key positions like CB and NT. at least mangini got the right framework here and now ryan molds it into a real NFL style defense. as for VG - forget it - it may be time to utilize him as a gap stuffer on the DL instead of in space. he duped everyone including me and the jets are paying for it. good times - lets enjoy it. jil
Yes, As much as I am glad Mangini is gone he did bring in some good talent and he did start with almost nothing. VG is starting to remind me of the fireman in the Adam Sandler movie where Sandler and another guy did the fake marriage thing.
I agree with the OP - this is just a great feeling. The last two wins up at gillette were great, too, but this one broke their streak at the Meadowlands, and is particularly great. Now the Jets have won three of the last four. Wow. And of course the D is awesome. I frankly didn't predict how much of an improvement the CS would make with this D, but they definitely have it playing considerably better than last year's. The O didn't score much, but they scored enough. Great job by Ryan and the rest of the coaches. When was the last time we could say that here? (other than last week, I mean...)
I believe we are up in the series now as well against the Pats aren't we? I thought they flashed a 49-49-1 series record before kickoff... that win puts up at 50. Time to start building a lead on these guys the next few years.
Just wanted to stop in to offer up my sincere congrats on the victory. The Jets played well and they deserved to win. Good luck the rest of the way and we'll see you later on in the season.
Thanks; very classy. It was a good hard fought game; the way I thought it would be. And yes, it think it is fair to say that it was just 1 Pats loss, but you guys will be in the hunt for the rest of the year. See you on Nov. 20th when I imagine the fans up your way may make things a bit loud for us.
Thanks guy... it is nice for us to finally hold up our end of the rivalry. It should make our battles more interesting for all of us when we can play at that level. See you guys again in Nov. :metal:
Thanks GH! My wife is from Queens and my mother-in-law is Woody's travel agent, so... there's a silver lining no matter how hard you look, LOL!
trully enjoyed the game yesterday. so much more i want to say but am going to keep it short. as long as we play this way next week we should be 3-0 heading into a game that am looking forward to more than the titans, week 4 in nawlings against that offense. I think that will be the biggest challenge to our D. can we somewhat contain bress and co.? i can't wait for that game.
What has be really enjoying this is that were aren't winning games ugly or playing poorly and catching a lucky break. This team is playing like they have been in this system for several years. Halftime adjustments..winning a game where we trailed at the half - 0-16 under Mangini in those situations. Tackling...tackles for loss...staying aggressive for 60 minutes on D and not playing scared to get beat. Ryan brings an attitude to this team that we haven't had since 1998. Sure we had playoff years since that great season, but I don't recall this time of nasty attitude and I like seeing it! Yesterday when Lowery was getting burned on slants they moved him up and took away the cushion and since when to we stop a screen pass for -5 yards??? The crowd so into yesterday from the opening kick - actually the Flight Crew did a little pre-game chant at midfield...so many of them! Not only was the crowd loud they took it up a notch anytime Brady tried to communicate a play change of line check - was amazing!!
I was actually up in Foxboro and watched the game with a bunch of Pats fans... Had my baby daughter in her JETS Cheerleader outfit.... GREAT TIMES - I didn't smack talk 1 bit... If I was home alone I probably would have been dancing, screaming and climbing the walls... But, I acted like I've been there... Of course my heart was in my stomach with the ball in Brady's hands with 2 minutes left - While Pats fans feel like Everything is right where they want it... I just Shook some hands and left. Long way to go - But, YEAH!!!! That felt great. Gotta stay healthy - Get Pace back and Rock and Roll... I'd still like to see more Leon.
Great post GH. This game was huge in my mind. Both to prove that week one was no fluke and to get over the hump against our biggest in divison rival. Even with Brady getting the ball back at the end of the game our D held tough and made me proud to be a Jets fan. I now feel taht we can play with any one with the current line up. Not that I'm claiming were are goign 16-0, but don't fear any teams. We could have a very special season ahead.
