Well here we are with a great o-line after the draft with one question remaining, who plays RT? Here's how the line looks right now.
    LT D'Brick
    LG Kendall
    C Mangold
    RG Moore
    RT ?????

Ok in my opinion, we have 3 options. Jones, Clements, or Teague at RT. II have a feeling all of them will compete in training camp for the spot at RT. But can any of them really play RT and be truly successful? I really liked Jones at LT and didn't want to draft brick, but it's all said and done with now. Your thoughts?

Right now, AJ is the best tackle on the team. Hopefully, Ferguson will claim that title shortly. AJ is a good tackle on the way to becoming a very good tackle. To play the right side, it would be good if he could add some weight.

I would like to see (yo!) Adrian get the nod. First off I have read / heard that we are likely moving to a zone blocking scheme. With Jones and Brick at the tackles that is going to be an incredibly athletic duo. Constant pulling and area blocking will cover up some of the difficulties straight ahead, smash-mouth run blocking that present this line. Each lineman will be able to move, and once you get either Brick or Jones with a head of steam behind them its not going to be easy to get around them. Assuming the starting line is the one you proposed our offense may become very shifty. Plus under short yardage circumstance we have Pocianski (sp?; TE -Wisc) and Houston to get us the extra push.

Well i dont think the Jets are worried about the RT position due to if they thought they didnt have a good RT they would have drafted winston Justice or ryan o'callaghan or someone else in the Draft. I think I will be Jones. i read somewhere that he has beefed up to around 310 or he is trying to and that is fine for a RT. Clements is more for depht and i dont see teague playing RT unless Jones or Clements really sucks or gets hurt i think i will look like this. I think it will be done to AJ and Clements and i think AJ will excel.

    #1: Jones
    #2: Clements
    #3: Teague

    Jones

Thats where he started out and I'm willing to give him a chance to excel there.

And before playing RT for about 3-4 games, he played at LT for 3 years. The only reason AJ started at RT last season was because they thought Fabini had enough left in him for another season at LT. And it turned out to be a disaster.

Look for DFerg to start the season at RT. He's bigger than Jones, and that will help him on the right side.

Then why didn't we draft a RT?

I highly doubt Brick plays RT. I fully expect him to play the left side. Adrian Jones is capable of playing RT.

Neither Brick or Adrian are great RTs which is why i was not fully on board with the Brick pick, but I love the athleticism all along the line. They all share similar traits of agility and athleticism. We will be a zone-blocking FORCE and our pass blocking should be dy-no-mite. (eventually)

  11. As I have been saying, If Jones can beef up about 10 lbs, and improve his drive blocking, he could be a good fit at RT. At that point we'd be looking at quite possibly the most athletic OT duo possibly ever. The playbook options would be endless.

Maybe I don't know as much about him as I thought. I thought he started out at RT. Well, I still think he can play the position.

Really it comes down to RT vs LT. What you want on the left is the ability to keep your athletic/speedy RDE's (think Freeny, Abe, Mario Williams) off of the QB. RT you want him to be able to pass block obviously ... but "normally" he will be bigger and a better run blocker. In a perfect world both LT and RT are all pro pass & run blockers.

I think Clements might have a shot at winning RT simply for that reason. He is bigger and an above average run blocker. Jones I believe is the better pass blocker. We will just have to wait and see.

You can't get every need in one draft... we added Depth thru FA on the line, drafted 2 starters and will fill out the line further next year in FA and through the draft. This is a 2 year rebuilding project to bring in the talent, and 4 years before seriously contending for a SB.

Mangini already said that DFerg will be starting at LT. And I believe they are both undersized and about the same size. Neither is a typical RT. The better one has to play LT.

First of all Mangold wont be starting at Center this season-its a tough position to just step right into in the NFL and thats why its a good thing we have Teague. Second of all there not going to put Ferguson on the right side, because the right side is not as important so they will put Jones there and hope he can adjust to the other side

Start Jones at RT. Hes the perfect fit there for our zone blocking scheme and our protection will be great this year.

Also dont pencil Mangold in at Center just yet. Mangini said 2 or 3 times in his interview that he likes his versitility and he can play C or G. He might think he has another Steve Hutchinson or something.
