The reason that this team has not taken it to the next level is because nothing has been done to address the three major problems that existed since Mangini was fired and that is why after three years both Rex and Tanny are responsible for this team losing credibility becoming known for being all talk and no action. Problem number 1, Shittenheimer needed to go three years ago and not be allowed to stay under Rex with a new three year contract. Now not only is he totally unprepared and chokes with his game plans for big games but he now has Sanchez regressing rapidly. Problem number 2, we have not had a pass rush for years and Rex and Tanny have done nothing to improve it and have drafted a few guys that look totally overrated. Problem number 3, we have not had top notch safeties for years and again did nothing to address that issue. Please Rex, I do not want to hear you talking crap anymore till you can back it up and Tanny, please keep the title of GM but hire a guy who can uncover talent in the draft. Even existing personnel decisions are made without the long term benefit of the team in mind such as having both Bart Scott and Pace give back $1MM in salary this year for guaranteeing their contract next year. Any fan with knowledge of the game knows they should be released next year but now we can't do that for a lousy $2MM when we are $8MM under the cap for this year. That is a joke.
In before cesspool Really? 2 trips to AFCCG after waiting 11 years to return it it and our GM and HC suck? Maybe Groh is available. Please stop.
We have not had top notch safeties for years and they've done nothing about it. What a witless comment. How, pray tell, does one will a top notch safety into joining your team? Should have traded up for beasts like Rahim Moore and Earl Thomas, or should we just have outright kidnapped Mike Tomlin's children until he agreed to trade us Troy Polamalu?
How about the defensive coordinator? Why is he let off scotch free? Didn't our defense let us down in pittsburgh last year in the afccg? Or how about the year before against Indy? Just going by your logic on this matter
Problem #1: We don't have Tom Brady. Problem #2: We don't have Demarcus Ware. Problem #3: We don't have Ed Reed. I agree on all counts. FIRE ALL THE PEOPLES!
Instead of sabotaging this season, Tannenbaum could have gone for: Johnathan Joseph (instead of Cro) Dawan Landry Braylon Edwards All three of them instead of sitting on his ass waiting for Nnamdi. This one is squarely on Tannenbaum no matter how you slice it - and to an extent, Rex if he pulled that one on Tannenbaum.
Wow holy shit same old fucking jets fans are alive and well. When the Jets open up the playoffs are you still going to show your face around here?
I love how everyone is whining about not drafting a pass rusher, please tell me, can you name a single elite pass rusher that has come out of the draft since Rex has been HC? People on here were screaming for Bowers, and yet I have not heard his name since the draft, there were no passrushers worth the pick in the past three drafts except Clay Matthews, but we took Sanchez instead. Looks like Matthews would have been the better value pick in retrospect.
Joseph is not much better then Cro and Cro has already been in the system for a year. Edwards has done shit this year and Plax has been playing well lately. Dont really know how well Landry has done this year because his team is garbage.
Every year it is a new area that is attacked. The Jets went Dline this year, which was badly needed. If you want to argue depth then I can see that. But as another poster said, there are only so many high level pass rushers available. And you would have to break the bank to get one of them, like Ware or Suggs for example.
1. If you are playing that 'already been in the system' card, you can't have it both ways; Cro is a better option because of that, then Braylon is a better option than Plax too. 2. Edwards hasn't done much IN SAN FRANCISCO. Nobody knows how he might be doing if he were here. We all know his presence was missed yesterday on the other hand. 3. So between Landry and Eric Smith, you will pick Eric Smith, right? Are you fucking nuts?
It's on Tannenbaum that he didn't fire shotty years ago. It's on Tannenbaum that he didn't resign Edwards, which was a blatantly stupid move. It's on Tannenbaum (and Rex) that they didn't offer Woody a cheap one year deal, which he has indicated he would have taken, instead of pushing him into retirement with the pipe dream that Vlad would be able to take over.
Whoa, slow down there. Remember Blair Thomas? Remember Johnie Mitchell? Kyle Brady? For a team known for its draft busts, Tanny's been a top-tier draft day GM. You can argue that he's traded depth for star power, but I'd argue that the game is about game-changers that create mis-matches. Did he take a chance on Nnamdi - he did, and it was a good risk - you can't win them all. As for Schottie, well fine, he ain't no Charlie Weiss. Belichek sucked in Cleveland while he was learning. Tanny and Rex have gone to 2 straight AFC championship games while they've been learning. We've been one of the NFL's top teams ever since Parcells and Woody salvaged the mess Mr Hess created. Net: Chill out - we have a good foundation here. You can call for someone's head, but you'd better be careful if better alternatives are non-existant.
Rex was alot of fun and hope the first 2 years to ME,,,,i think his poor coaching is exposed now and its not that much fun to me anymore...fuck your books your sunglasses your veneers and new movie role.......be a football coach....Namath had his guy figured out quick
Whoa a lot of negativity here, can't say that its not valid, especially moving up to draft that Sanchez girl, but Rex is not to blame here. He wanted a pass rusher here more than anything to fit his style. He publicly stated, as politically as he can not to upset his boss, that he was all for resigning Braylon. Mulligan was not his option before Cumberland inexplicably chopped off his own foot (he was pretty damn promising). Moreover, Rex may not be the technical sith that Belishit is, but he brought leadership, confidence, and a certain style to this team, which took them deep in the playoffs. That above else, was a critical need.
