I've yet to see the Skins game and was wondering what those who saw the game yesterday now thought of the order at QB. Did anyone see anything last night that they thought promoted/demoted their thoughts about the situation?
Still hard to say because Pennington didn't play. Game 1 Order was Pennington,Clemmens,Ramsey briefly. Game 2 Order was Ramsey,Bollinger,Clemmens briefly. From the way they have played I would say it is 1.Pennington 2.Clemmens 3.Ramsey
I was personally more impressed with Bollinger than Ramsey. Ramsey has shown nothing, Bollinger actually moved the ball well.
I agree with that. I am just thinking Ramsey due to the fact that we traded a draft pick for him, and then recently gave him an extention.
i wish i could have seen more throws by clemens. he didnt really get to be tested out very much. he did well from what i saw since it was a touchdown pass i expected about what i saw out of ramsey and i was pretty impressed with bollinger (the guys on that dumb radio station compared him to Fran Tarkenton with all the scrambling)
im with ya there but i just think that ramsey would be above clemmens on the depth chart since most coahces dont like to make rookies play big roles (being a backup to chad with his history is a big role) in their first year, even though i do think if chad went down kellen would see significant playing time
Brooks got more playing time this game because they are trying to showcase him so that they can trade him
Probably the depth chart is Pennington, Ramsey, Clemens, Bollinger, for the reasons noted above (got Ramsey in a trade, Clemens a rookie), but IMO from the point of view of how they've looked, I would put it at Clemens, Pennington, Bollinger, Ramsey, and Bollinger might even be ahead of Pennington.
But do you think they will cut Bollinger? it would be mad to let a player go who works better on your roster just because one of the others was traded for. Myself i see it like this: Pennington Clemens Bollinger Ramsey maybe we can keep all 4?
I just find the dink-and-dunk stuff very uninspiring. If Pennington can't throw 15 yard outs and 20 yard go routes, he is very easy to game plan against, especially without a Hall of Famer at RB.
The question, is Mangini telling the truth when he says he hasn't committed to a QB yet? If he hasn't and it is an open competition Clemens is clearly outperforming everyone. Usually the starting QB plays into the third quarter of the third exhibition game. If Chad doesn't get all the reps with the first O next week than you can honestly say that Mangini has little to no confidence in him even if he ends up our starter. If Clemens starts next week it's a sign that he has outright won the competition. If that's the case the should cut Chad and keep Bollinger as the back up and Ramsey as the #3. It would allow Chad to sign on to another team which is only fair if he has no real future here.
I'm thinking that it's pretty clear at this point that Ramsey and Bollinger are locked in a battle for the 3rd and final QB spot on the roster. The thing is that Ramsey is more prototypical for an NFL QB and Bollinger just seems to perform better in practice. It's gotta be a very tough decision for them. I'm sure they expected more out of Ramsey than they've seen so far. My hunch is the Jets wind up with this: 1. Chad 2. Clemens 3. Bollinger But that's just my hunch.
Bollinger is playing for the #3 spot. Pennington is playing for the #1 spot. Big difference. Also, Bollinger can actually run with the ball and make something out of nothing, unlike Pennington.
so let me get this straight. Pennington Vs Ramsey for #1...loser being #2 Bollinger Vs Clemons for #3....loser being cut or #4
I think that it is Pennington vs Ramsey for #1. If Pennington is the winner, it becomes Ramsey versus Clemens for #2 or #3. If Pennington is the loser, he is #2, unless he is so awful that he is given his release as a favor so he can find somewhere else to play. Ramsey is then #1, but with a short leash; if he stinks, and Pennington plays poorly, gets hurt, or is already gone, Clemens gets his shot. I don't expect Bollinger to make the team (unless they carry four QBs) unless either Pennington or Ramsey are off the charts awful or there is an injury, which hasn't happened yet. Obviously Clemens makes the team, and IMO is at least the #3 QB. Note that this is not what I think the QBs have looked like in preseason, which was the original question, but my impression of the depth chart. One thing for sure, however - Mangini is very good at not telling outsiders where players stand, so for all anybody knows he might already have Bollinger pencilled in at starting QB!
After the game, I do not see why it would be Pennington versus Ramsey for #1. If anyhing, it is Clemens and Penny battling it out. Ramsey showed absolutley nothing...happy feet, indecisive, held on to the ball, throws were not that good. Bollinger showed something and was clearly more effective. His feet give him a dynamic that Ramsey does not have. I just do not see Bollinger going anywhere right now. NE carried 4 QBs Brady's rookie year, we may do the same. Regardless, Ramsey is no more than tied for 3rd spot at this point and I think he has to have slipped from this game. P.S. Even though it was a little overthrown I loved seeing Clemens thow deep.
