….than any and everyone combined on a team/staff/front office. Look at the record of these coaches without their Hall of Fame QBs: Belichick (Brady), Payton (Brees), LaFleur (Rodgers). Or how about “genius” coordinators who moved on from situations with elite QBs like Josh McDaniels, Brian Daboll, Eric Bienemy. Hell Hackett ran an ELITE offense in Green Bay. I can go on and on and on…..the point is when an offense isn’t performing, it starts and ends with the QB. I don’t think Saleh, Hackett, or JD are anything special, but here’s the truth: NOBODY is good without the elite QB. This has been proven over and over. This isnt a defense of our front office and coaches, it’s just reality. You can keep changing regimes but if you don’t have the QB it simply doesn’t matter, its all window dressing.
It's the reality of the garbage rules of today's NFL. A few simple adjustments to the rules could make 25 or so teams relevant every year, instead of the 5-6 teams with the best QB and a few lucky ones that get by on their scraps and a little luck.
And I think we need to go after whatever QB is around in Round 1. Pennix JJ Mcarthy Whoever. Look at the freaking Titans. Now they have a Franchise QB.
Good points….the rules are geared towards helping the offense, and more specifically, the passing game, get yards. Touching a receiver at all after 5 yards is a foul, ticky tack PI calls are a huge part of the game, roughing the passer calls also are often ticky tack. I have no problem with PI and RTP but they should be legit blatant calls that impact the receiver or are clearly violent on the QB. The inconsistency is terrible. But the point of all those calls is to let the offense pass the ball and score points. And if you don’t have a good QB, you can’t take advantage of the rules.
Exactly -- Football is supposed to be "the ultimate TEAM game", but over the last 20 years it's become the "how to best support and/or slow down one guy game".
We had our franchise QB for the next 2-3 years but his season ended because of the bad OL after only four snaps. I don't know how well a franchise QB would do behind our really bad OL. Look at Mahomes. He sucked in the SB against the Bucs, this year's games against the Jets and Broncos when he got very little protection from his OL. JD is only partially responsible for how bad the OL is because of all of the injuries. But he wasn't able to retain Fant and Moses who are now playing well somewhere else. He tried to sign I think another two good OLinemen who went with other teams which is not on him. Fant and Moses leaving may or may not be on him. We don't know.
Regarding the bold - the OL wasn't playing well even before the injuries. It's been a constant problem during the entirety of JD's tenure, injuries or not. He's also sunk a ton of resources into it and it still has never been good. The OL is absolutely 100% JD's fault. But to this thread's point - yes, the QB is the most important thing. Good QBs get rid of the ball quickly enough to not take so many sacks.
