While the Washington Redskins have gone from first to worst, quarterback Robert Griffin III has experienced a slide that is directly proportionate to his team's.

He has cost the Redskins games and could cost people their jobs -- and that won't turn out to be the biggest cost of all to Washington.

The St. Louis Rams have the Redskins' 2014 first-round draft pick, which is, as of now, the fifth overall choice. And that cost still could rise. Washington finishes the season with games against the Giants, Kansas City, at Atlanta, Dallas, and at the Giants. That first-round pick could turn out to be even higher, which would only add to the Rams' take in return for RG III.

So far, the Rams have turned Washington's picks into a bushel of players. They took the Redskins' first-round pick in 2012, traded back with Dallas and picked up an extra second-round pick, slid back a few more spots with Chicago for an extra fifth-round pick, and used those three picks on defensive tackle Michael Brockers, running back Isaiah Pead and guard Rokevious Watkins. They also used the Redskins' 2012 second-round pick on cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

Then, in the 2013 draft, the Rams traded Washington's first-round pick to Atlanta for an extra third-round pick and wound up with linebacker Alec Ogletree and wide receiver Stedman Bailey.

So there's the Rams haul: Brockers, Jenkins, Pead, Watkins, Ogletree, Bailey. So far.

Now the Rams are looking at potentially the highest pick yet from the deal. Then the book on the blockbuster RG III trade finally can be closed, with its cost calculated.

And during a season in which the Redskins' record keeps dropping, there's more bad news for Washington.

The price of RG III keeps going up.

    Nice move for the Rams.

This is interesting because this should give the Rams a chance to draft a QB at the beginning of the draft. Jeff Fisher does have to start producing results though next season, entering his third year.

RG3 will be fine. Coming back from injury really fkd this season up, for him and the team. If the shanaclan is fired it may actually be for the best. I do like Shanahan but he's too old school for RG3. It's like the old person with new technology that doesn't know how to use it. Like using a smartphone just for phone calls and texting. They need to go all in with their gameplan catered to his attributes but I'm not sure they know how.

RGIII's issues are largely focused around the fact that you can't run a read option in the NFL as any part of the main backbone of your offense. The QB's take too many hits and the offense isn't hard to game plan around for the defense. It just requires a different set of prerogatives for the outside linebackers and the safeties.

Use the read option 3 or 4 times a game as a change of pace and you get something out of it. Use it as a main branch of the offense and the payoffs are less and the risks are higher.

The Panthers took off this season because they finally decided the read option was just a minor change-of-pace. And they have the best read option QB in the NFL because he's actually big enough to take some real hits without breaking down.

RG3 benefited from a dominate run game, this guy wont make it, never believed in him and never will.

I'd rather have RG III than all of those players so far.

The run game was dominant because of RG3. If he doesn't make it the reason is because he got injured.

Not sure why but I don't like this guy. He threw his coach under the bus last season right? And this season his teammates criticized him. The guy talks. Talks too much some can say. But if used correctly, he can be a weapon. This year he came back from a serious injury so I don't think he played as good as last year.

Also the read option point made by Br4dw4y5ux is correct. I guess defenses finally cought up with this. Like RG3, Kapernick has also slowed down this year.

The Rams right now aren't an easy out team. The NFC West looks like it's going to be a sick division for the next few years. Top to bottom loaded with players and good coaching.

At the end of the day if Griffin can really come all the way back from what was a very tough injury, it's still a good move by the Redskins. The guy can flat out play but an injury like he had can take a huge toll both physically and mentally. Palmer went from being a guy with unlimited upside to a JAG after his knee injury.

He has been a total douche starting with the offseason and buying into his own hype. Naming his knee rehab "operation patience", and then this season he has been throwing coaches/teammates under the bus when it is really mainly his poor play that has cost them.

I said at the time that the problem with the trade was that there wasn't any upside. Even if RGIII turned out to be a good QB, that was a fair price for him. There wasn't any way the Redskins were going to say they made a great trade. Three first rounders and a second, and it wouldn't be reasonable to expect a QB to excel right away, so chances were the other two first rounders weren't going to be low picks (in addition to the 6th overall they knew they were giving up).

I like RGIII. People are turning on him in the DC area. I'd love him to be traded to the Jets. Idzik's offseason goal should be to work out a deal for RGIII or Cousins.

He is a cocky SOB and I am glad he finally came crashing back to earth this season... Dude is not a leader at all... Has his dad come into the locker room after the 49er game.. Are you fucking kidding me???

Listen to his press conferences... Always saying "we" and "the team".. I have not once heard him say "I".. He always places blame on others... Hope he fails in the NFL. Guy doesn't deserve to be a QB in the NFL... That is the one thing I will give Geno... He never not once threw any blame on his teammates, it is always on him... That's how you be a leader.

The biggest difference for RGIII has been the offensive gameplan which has been driven by their terrible defense. Last year they were very run and play action based. I believe they ran play action something like 50% of the time and RGIII really benefited from that. Their defense has been playing awful and they are constantly behind so they feel they can't run the ball. Shanahan has been very foolish in his handling of RGIII. With the Shanahans there I dont think RGIII will last long which is unfortunate because IMO he's great. Needs a CS who won't get him killed

Cousins needs to start all the way. RGIII still is not healthy over his injury it seems.

Stop it, this team is 3-8 if they didn't bench RGIII early in the season there's no reason to take snaps away from him now.

I'd rather have RG3 than any of the players the Rams have gotten so far. And while we're talking about the Redskins, Jets need to trade for Kirk Cousins.

I assume you mean combined? It's probably close, and the book isn't closed yet. Still another first rounder to go.

On top of all the players the Rams already have, they're going to get an additional top 10 pick.
