http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQotAI6SSb4&feature=plcp I don't know much about this algorithm but it sure makes our drafted wrs look like a success. Skip to 3:40 to see the Top 5 2012 Draftees (Wrs) by "playmaker" score. What do you think of this "ranking"? I'm not sure why Jordan White is ranked so high, but it makes me feel a lot better about the pick. Hill I expected to be near the top, and I'm glad he is.
He had a great year last year. That's why he's ranked highly by them. He had a good year the year before. Production gets you noticed, even if it is against out-classed competition like the people he played against. I think he's got a shot at being a decent receiver in the NFL. He's not going to overwhelm us because his tools just aren't there but he might well be a good slot receiver who helps out. One thing to rememeber about his last two seasons in college: he was a man among boys. He was a 6th year senior last year and played the entire season at 23. He burned a lot of 18 and 19 year old defensive backs in the process and his superior experience was likely a major factor in that. He's probably the best late draft pick the Jets have had recently. He could catch 50 balls next year and help out.
They factor in the % of passes caught by the receiver. In White's case he caught 140 of the 369 team passes completed, which is 38%. Comparatively Hill caught 34% (28 of 82), Blackmon 28% (121 of 428), and Floyd 33% (100 of 302). Of course it helps that White also had 1911 yds and 17 TDs.
Jordan White was very productive & I think he's in the running for best hands in this draft's receiver class. His weaknesses (or explanations on why he was drafted so late): - injuries/surgeries he's gone through before even entering the NFL - level of competition he faced. Will he be able to get consistent separation in the NFL? If White can stay injury free and consistently generate a little space against #2 CB then he'll be turning a lot of heads as WR ... but I'm not so sure that he can do these things. This why I'm seeing him as a dedicated punt returner that won't fumble or muff punts & potential #4 WR with excellent hands. If he's WR#4 then he won't be lining up against the better DB on other team. Hopefully, this will give him a chance to create separation with his really good route running. ==== Really like both WR selected by Jets. Not sure if either of them will be that franchise-level WR like Megatron but I can see both of them being productive which is great because they'll both be on rookie contracts & Jets can focus elsewhere in FA.
Interesting - I'm surprised that Hill came away with the highest play maker score ever, beating Calvin Johnson as the previous high.
Do you guys think at this point White is virtually guaranteed a spot on the 53? Who is really challenging him?
Interesting. If BOTH Hill and White work out as projected by the video, then this draft has been a monster!
As long as Coples doesn't bust, I agree 100% -- and I'm beginning to think that it might just work out for us; can't wait for tomorrow's preseason game.
He’s back practicing and caught Rex’s eye, and I believe he’s playing in tmw preseason game and should get a lot of snaps.
I'm not sure about Wright, because the guy did say that he threw out conference adjustments this year, and that would be one where White would be penalized. But I love the Hill pick, I think that was an amazing pick. His size and speed combination puts him in the Moss and Johnson category, and that kind of physical traits are extremely hard to find in the second round. I'm not sure how he's going to do this first year, being a big transition for him, but I think he has the best upside of any of the WRs picked in this draft, and a somewhat safe floor as a pure burner. As I've said before, I don't think I've been this excited about a draft pick in a long time.
Football Outsiders- Predicting WR success- Stephen Hill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-b60ipNlaQ&feature=plcp Now, I'm not sure if this video was posted here before. If it was, I'm sorry for re-posting it. Anyway, I found it interesting that Stephen Hill had the best number according to their predicting scores of any WR since 2005. It is also really high on Jordan White apparently, and White looked pretty decent during the preseason I believe. And btw, these stats also include the time period in which Clavin Johnson was drafted. Anyway, just wanted to post the video. I thought it was pretty interesting. Apparently this guy works ESPN Insider as well (which may or may not be a good thing around here, lol).
