Belichick didn't suddenly forget how to coach. Mac Jones doesn't have blackmail on Bob Kraft's rub-N-tug excursions keeping him from being benched. (if he did, it wouldnt matter anyway but that's besides the point) They are just tanking for Caleb Williams, I think.
ugh, it sucks. We sucked for so long and still dont have a QB worth anything. They are gonna suck for 1 year and get another 15+ year beast
I don't buy it. It's not a matter of forgetting how to coach. It's a matter of poor drafts and other personnel matters catching up with Belichick. When Brady was there, he covered up a lot of these mistakes. Just look at Belichick's record after Brady left (26-29). Look at his entire record without Brady (79-88). The reality is that Belichick is still a good coach, but he's also a not-so-good GM, and he no longer has Brady as a safety net.
Still think they win 5-7 games. They had a pretty tough schedule to start the year with defensive teams. Eagles Jets Dallas Saints Raiders Washington Colts Gmen Steelers Broncos Jets
Belichick has 299 wins. He not only wants to get 300 but also catch Shula who has 328 wins for the most all-time wins by an NFL head coach. He isn't tanking. It's just the Pats aren't very good.
They had a lot of draft picks last year and they are playing a lot of them already this year. I think him being a bad GM is somewhat true but somewhat overstated. He drafted a lot of players that had long careers and played on a lot of good defenses and offensive lines. Terrible at drafting receivers. But he also identified the difficulty of drafting players which is why he always traded down and took tons of players in the 2nd-4th.
I don't think he is tanking. Belichick doesn't need to tank. He can leave at the end and basically pick his team he wants to coach (Cowboys, Jets, Bills, Bengals, etc.) Patriots need a multi-year overhaul at this point and that's probably too long for Belichick. Whichever teams don't achieve this year, Bill can basically force his way into imo. He doesn't need to tank and I think having a 1-16 season would hurt his legacy a tad.
It doesn't matter if The Slob is on his deathbed and doesn't know what his name is. If he goes 2-15 throwing his soiled diapers at a chalkboard he's beating the Jets.
The Patriots have top 5 cap space in the league next year. It’s a loaded free agent class for receiver specifically but also edge rusher. I see these calls for him to retire. Why? They made the playoffs 2 years ago and finished a game out last year. They’ll have a top ten pick in a loaded QB class.
Because Bill is also the GM. The Pats fans I know are worried with him at the helm of making these picks and spending the money, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. My guess is it would be impossible to ask Bill to relinquish GM control and only serve as head coach for the team. Personally, I mostly want this to end in a bitter divorce that plummets the Pats to the basement of the division for a decade plus.
If the Bills fail again in the playoffs I wonder if they would go after Bill to be the HC. Bill + Josh and that roster would have a very good chance to win the Super Bowl. Say what you want about Bill, but the results speak for themselves when he has had a franchise QB and a solid roster to work with.
It was always Brady. Bill is a good coach, but he had the goat. Living in Boston for most of their dynasty, and the end, I used to laugh at Patriot fans who all of a sudden said Bill was why they won so much and not Brady. That POV only came to be once is was a conclusion Brady was most likely leaving. Hardcore denial.
