This is a little depressing to me to think of how that is now technically "a long time ago" when to me it feels like it just happened. The video quality even looks old.
Gase, Darnold, and Bell (maybe among others?) all had virtual meetings with the media this morning. Nothing earth shattering, but I thought Bell had a few interesting things to say on his performance last season, Gase, Adams, etc: (Part 1)
Le'Veon Bell is increasingly becoming my favorite player on this roster. What a fuckin leader. And to think he was bashed to hell for his apparent "ego" when he left Pittsburgh.
For sure. Willingness to shoulder full responsibility, even when it's not called for, is a great sign. A leader yes, but also just a realized adult, which is practically asking for the moon these days. I'm so happy to read those tweets. Really proud of him.
Give Bell the Captain Patch, no one else deserves it more right now. Is Gase evolving? Clearly he knows this is it. He's got the system and its effective, now he must improve situational playcalling.
Kudo's to Bell for admitting he wasn't in his best of shape, BUT I still think the OL played a big part in the down year Bell and the whole offense had last year. The Jets offense will go as the OL goes this year. Sam will improve with better protection, Bell will improve with better run blocking & the whole offense will improve because of better OL play.
Doubt it. Hes always been a good locker room guy and hes out to prove the Jets are a better team. Have some pride
I'm really interested to see what the defense is going to look like. Unfortunately I think Mosely's departure hurt us a lot in terms of flexibility. I thought that Onwuasor was going to fill in more of the hybrid Jamal Adams blitzing/covering role if we did trade him. I think we still might be looking at more of a 4-2-5 look if we can stop the run in that formation and keep Poole on the field at times. My hope was to see Onwuasor as the 5th guy at times and moving around a bit more. Anyone know more about him? Can he cover? He's light and lanky so I just assumed he could.
Couldn't agree with you more. There in lies my assertion that most of what you read in the press is 85% BS just to sell news, damned the facts. So when people talk about gullible fans, it goes both ways. I still think the OL was a huge part of our problem hands down. I do believe we will see a different Bell this year and a better offense. We clearly are no where near at the level of the better teams in offensive weapons, but far from the bunch of scrubs some people here think. Key is to keep our core healthy God willing....unlike last year disaster to start the season.
Agree 1000%. I think Bell definitely lacked the drive and ability he had with Pittsburgh. I also think there are a number of factors that helped contribute to that. Our offensive line was piss poor, he had an entire year off with no football, and he was operating in a brand new complicated system. It is very encouraging seeing where his mind is at right now. It is even more encouraging knowing he will have a better offensive line to run behind, and has a year of experience in the offensive system. Let's hope we see a breakout year for him!
