Now before I get into this, I should note that I am a student at the University of Florida, so I may be somewhat biased. Regardless, I have seen this kid play for three years, and he is the real deal. Percy Harvin is the spark that this team needs. One of our biggest problems this year was that we didn't have a reciever who could spread the field as well as be a threat for the deep ball. He's faster and more elusive than Leon, and could create nightmares for defensive coordinators. He's a home run threat whenever he is on the field. He has amazing YAC ability and is extremely good at running the ball as well. Having Percy and Leon on the field at the same time is guaranteed success. PLEASE DRAFT PERCY HARVIN! Thoughts?
He's 5'11 so his route running and speed need to be elite to play in the NFL... forget what you see in college. Everyone is fast in the NFL. His durability concerns me, but he does play hurt, so good for him. Mods will move this when they get a chance.
There's an OFFICIAL Draft Forum! Percy Harvin was one of the fastest player in all of college football. I've said this before in previous threads: Harvin should be used like Reggie Bush, maybe even Chris Johnson. He's a scat back, not a wideout. Harvin is a player that needs to get his hands on the ball as many times as possible in a game.
Well I've never paid much attention to his route running, so I won't comment on that. His speed though, is certainly elite. For starters, he runs a 4.2 40. But in the game its just amazing to watch him. He slips past tackles almost Barry Sanders like, and once he sees room, its off to the house. No one can even come close to catching him.
Harvin definately has the blazing speed for the NFL he's going to be one of the fastest players in the 09 Draft. as for route running i would assume he's good but not 100% shure, An from what i've seen from him with the Gators he has pretty good hands to go along with game breaking speed. 5'11 may be a little bit short considering Coles is 5'11 , Cotchery 6'0 , Clowney 6'0 Stuckey 5'11 we could use a taller receiver in the 6'2-6'3 range.
If we're gonna draft a WR early, he definitely needs to be an established route runner. Look at what separates Desean Jackson to Ted Ginn.
there are so many things more important than being a certain height. i would take a guy 5 10 who jumps 40 inches over a guy 6 5 who jumps 25. trust me the guy with the jump will get more balls. i agree with the post above, its all about route running and continued emphasis on making yourself a better player. there are tons of talented wrs but few of them put in the work to become great.
1200 miles? I'd still prefer DHB/Kenny Britt over any other receiver in this draft. (Crabtree is not an option)
I think he has some similiarities to Bush but he isn't going to be around when we draft in the 2nd round. I hope to god we don't draft him at 17, its too much of a risk after the Gholston blunder. Teams that have more talent in the defensive line, linebackers and secondary can afford to take a risk like Harvin. As we all know, we are lacking in those departments. Ryan is a defensive coach and he will want to build the defense in round 1. Leon Washington is our difference maker as people in this post have stated , and he is still not utilized to the degree of his talent.
I dont know. I have mixed feelings on the draft this year. I want a game breaking WR and Harvin could be that but I would like one with some height. But I also would love to draft a defensive player to help stregnthen this D whether its somebody like Mauluaga or Will Moore. I really want to be strong on defense and I have a great feeling about Mauluaga being a star in this league and would love to move up to draft him (something Tanny has shown he is willing to do).
while Percy has speed and explosiveness, he has not played a down in college in a pro style system. Is he fast and exciting? Yes. Is he a true WR or RB? Not at all. He's a special teamer right now. That doesn't justify a 1st round pick for a 5'11 option player who is injury prone. The Jets don't need another special teamer type project guy, and anyone who take this guy in the first round is foolish. 2nd round? Cool with me, but he is not 1st round material, now matter how fast he is. Get me a tall WR, who is already familiar with actually playing in a professional offense, who is strong and not injured. Frankly, Percy Harvin is one of the worst possible picks the Jets could make. Remember, how many highlights a kid puts up in college is irrelevent to the league.
