Did you ever play organized football, and if so, at what level? This forum is a survey, but it's also a valuable opportunity to have relatively meaningless arguments about high school football.
Peewee, junior high, high school, college. Not participating in the poll because I don't feel like logging onto my desktop.
Peewee: QB, HB, DE, LB, actually probably all positions Junior High: QB, HB, FB, TE, DE, LB, S High School: FB, TE, LB, DE, S College: FB, TE, LB
I played high school DE and two years of DII at DE (kinda "played" there). I quit because I couldn't hack it at the college level and decided to focus on my studies instead. Sometimes you gotta realize when you are in over your head. I was too small for DE at that level but too slow for LB... Playing football all the way through jr high and high school were some of my best learning experiences though. Thats why I feel so passionate today when the media or people try to knock the game at the youth level.
I only played HS, we won the state title my sophomore year and we lost in the state playoffs junior year. We sucked senior year. I was a safety but also played PR and KR. I had great speed but lacked any size. I got a few calls from really small school coaches like TCNJ and Widener but I was also a track runner and had much better options to go to a D1 school as a runner so I went that route and left my football days behind me. Going to a PAC 10 school though and knowing how big and fast those kids were there is no way I would have ever been able to play at a D1 or even D2 or 3 level.
Played Center/OG in HS for a High Profile LA High School. Division III -- Barely saw the field though, other than long snapper 1 year.
When I got to the west coast I couldn't believe the speed of the California kids, NJ is no pushover when it comes to athletes but I had kids from LA on my team and I was blown away by how fast and athletic they were. We had guys from Poly, Inglewood, Carson, Torrance and all over LA on our team and those kids could run. I was instantly lost and I think it probably led to my failure at that level.
