I have been a Jets fan for 25 years and I have never seen one player take more negative publicity than Geno Smith. Geno is a young QB who is still learning his trade. He seems like a nice enough kid when talking to the media. When he missed that meeting you would have thought he robbed a bank
Are you serious? I'm a diehard and like Geno, BUT He's earned all the negative press. Here's hoping he comes around Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Look at his salary. Look at his play on the field. Bank robbers should be freed, it is Geno Smith who belongs in jail.
Geno got great publicity up until the Buffalo game from his rookie season. Since that game he has not shown he can be an NFL QB. So until something changes the criticism is fair.
I think Geno can be a winning NFL QB. Neither we or the media will make the final decision. That is up to the new staff and the kid himself. I do think the newspapers and some on this board have been intemperate. Sometimes it seems that he has done personal harm to the writers and some fans.
He's being paid nothing. Compare Geno's salary to Mark Sanchez's rookie salary...or his salary after Tanny's lovely extension offered in 2011.
I think all the resident GMs here take it personally when someone other than their choice is drafted. It seems they then root for that player to fail to make themselves seem smart. I'm a Jets fan and have been since they were the Titans. I root for ALL players to succeed, not just the ones I "like". I really dislike Favre but I was happy we got him and desperately wanted him to succeed. I wanted Matt Robinson over Richard Todd but when the team went with Todd I rooted for him to win. I just can't understand all the negativity about someone like Smith on here. If they decide to start him next season I'll be rooting for him to win for God sakes, and certainly not to fail! I think there are A LOT of members here who wouldn't agree with me and I think it's a damn shame.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, exactly, precisely, the only reason he kept playing was everyone was politically afraid of ditching him. He stinks, he'll never be good, he does not have the faculties to be a NFL quarterback. What do you need to convince yourself?
Your header says "not fair" - can you cite anything that was untrue or grossly exaggerated? Was it really the press or places like this? Would you have the media ignore the terrible games and only look when the sun is shining?
Hi, Geno !!! Nice try, now keep on learning how to throw a football, possibly near someone who wears your same uniform.
Mark Sanchez led us to two AFC Championship game appearances. Geno Smith lead us to 4-12 (3-13 if Tennessee doesn't screw up on that last play). Sanchez has shown himself to be at least a good journeyman / backup. Geno Smith is an abomination. When did Mark Sanchez ever miss a meeting in six years, EVER?????
Mark did not "lead" us anywhere. He was dragged along kicking and screaming. He was not very good those years, he just had a really good cast with him.
