Just thought I'd start this so that actual flaws in Mark Sanchez play could be listed. He's definitely not the prototypical pocket passer and I think he catches a lot of grief because of that.

The flaws I see in him come down to two categories, first are physical and second are performance based.

    Physical Flaws

He's only 6'2" which gives him less of a view of the field from inside the pocket, particularly given the fact that the left side of the Jet's offensive line are both 6'5" or taller. This leads to tipped passes on that side once or twice a game. It may also play into his notoriously poor field vision on that side of the field.

His arms are unusually long (33.5") which makes his delivery a tad slower than you'd like. It also causes issues with extension when he's moving with the ball in traffic. The ball is a bit more exposed in normal movement than you'd like. His arm length is really unusual for his height. Sam Bradford has 34" inch arms but he's 6'4" which still makes him long for the height but not as long as Sanchez is at 6'2". The average NFL QB is 6'4" with 32" arms.

That about covers the physical flaws. Sanchez has excellent burst speed for a QB and a solid frame that absorbs hits well. His pain tolerance is obviously good.

    Performance Flaws

Accuracy on short passes is poor. He hits his receiver on the back shoulder too often on crossing routes and he throws the ball into the ground too often on swing passes out of the backfield.

The left side of the field is a minefield for him. His completion percentage on that side of the field is lower than to the right for his career and his interceptions are heavily clustered there although he is getting better at that. 2009 - 13 of 20 Ints's there. 2010 - 7 of 13. 2011 - 3 of 4.

Ball safety in the pocket although it's hard to judge him on that this season because there is no pocket to keep the ball safe in.

Rarely throws to the area of the field he is most effective in. Only 137 of Sanchez 1,018 career passes have been to the middle. This despite his career 61.3 completion percentage there for 8.4 yards an attempt and only 1 interception in 137 attempts. He needs to throw the ball between the hashes more often and if he's not getting plays called to facilitate that this needs to change also.

He has zero touch on close passes.

Evidently, he relies on Mangold too much for protection adjustments at the line.

Oh, he's definitely my QB. I just want to put the criticism of him on a real plane instead of the ridiculous crap that people spout all the time about him.

I believe that if the Jets are going to get to the Super Bowl in my life time the odds are that Sanchez gets them there. He's the best prospect at QB that I've seen on the Jets since Richard Todd.
