This idea is ridiculous and includes what-ifs but it got me thinking:

Lets say Rex Ryan stays with the jets for a decade and makes the Jets a perennial play-off team (no sub .500 seasons) and wins 2 or 3 superbowls before 2020. IF that happens, yes it'd be beyond our wildest expectations as Jet fans, for arguments sake: where would Ryan be ranked amongst coaches?

In all honesty, if Rex does something similar to the above (this argument holds no weight unless the Jets are winners/dynasty), I think he will go down as the 'greatest' coach since Lombardi.

When I say greatest, I'm not necessarily saying he's the best since, but the impact he's had on the NFL with his style going completely opposite the norm will at least make him the most influential.

He was my coach since day one. I bought into the first press conference.

Shut up about the future. Lets focus on this week!

Yeah well, I have like the 3rd best winning % in NYJ history and I've never coached a game in my life.

But, I get what you're saying. Already has 4x as many playoff wins as Parcells!!

What if he wins 15 straight superbowls with 15 different QB's?

QFT. He had me at hello...

If he wins us the SB this year he will be a bigger legend than Weeb and Namath combined. And we have a young core. I will stand by his side even through the 4-12 seasons. Injuries happen, free agency happens.

So while I would like to believe and hope we will be a perennial PO team, I REFUSE to become a spoiled Pats fan and think that Rex should be gone after missing a couple playoffs in a row.

In 2 years Rex has broken all Jet coach playoff records. Rex broke Herm's record for franchise playoff wins of 2, against the Colts and has now doubled it. Next week he will break Herm's record for most playoff games of 5, with his 6th playoff game.

Not sure if I should be sad that we have had such little success or happy that Rex has achieved so much. But having watched Jets football for 40+ years I am overjoyed.

Rex was my guy the second Mangini was gone. I've been a fan since he was a DC in Baltimore because of his style of defense.

This has been a dream for me. This ride has been euphoric so far.

I know they'll miss the playoffs too, because every team does unless you have a HOF once in a generation QB.

Is Sanchez that good? We don't know yet, let's lean towards no for right now... But they could make it 6 times in a row and then miss a year due to FA or injuries or too much youth. You never know.

The NFL is very cosmic. These things happen to everyone.

Rex is amazing, and he was my guy from day 1 as well. He is the perfect coach for this team, what more can jets fans ask for from a guy who is in his second year as a coach?

Rex has already done more for this franchise than any coach in its history besides Weeb. In three weeks, he will have surpassed Ewbank.

I love when fans say lets focus on this week, or this game only.

We are the freakin fans, the fun thing about being a fan is being able to look ahead.

If we were playing Sunday I'd agree 100%.

I'll still cheer as loud as I always do no matter if I look 1 game ahead or 20 years from now.

After Mangini, I would have welcomed Pete Carroll back.

I was completely sold on Rex after watching the Ravens-Phins playoff game. You just knew he could do special things with the Jets defense and so far he has exceeded my expectations. I would have said give him 3 years before expecting anything big while he builds the roster that he wants. 2 AFC championship games later I can't complain about anything that has happened.
