    typo in the title. *when
So much for a run first offense. In only two games Sanchez has demonstrated the foot work, awareness, and poise of a 6 year vet. Essentially this has earned him the ability to throw more, thus leaving the run first offense behind.

Some posters have mentioned this...Sanchez's short passes are crisp and fast but these sometimes create problems for receivers. There was one flip that was on the money and Leon dropped because he wasn't ready for the throw. Sanchez will soon learn when to put mustard on the ball in a short passing scenario making the Jets more dangerous in 3rd and short running scenarios because they can opt out of the run.

But I want to focus on TJ and the run game.

I can't be more critical of Thomas Jones. You can't use the stacking the box argument for the Patriots game. The Pats barely blitzed and played "safe". Leon led the Jets with 14 carries, 50+ yds but where was TJ in the stat line? Toward the bottom of the list because he can't make anything happen after initial contact.

So the death of the run is the birth of the pass it look like.

i agree with you that they will allow sanchez more leash....

but you praise leon for his stats of 14 carries 59 yards.....

and tj had the same stat line. 14 carries 54 yards. tj averaged 4 yards per carry......thats not to shabby

I'm not praising Leon. 14 for 50+ on a mediocre defense is horrible.

The Pats were playing heavy run defense, kind of like the Texans did. They defended the pass well in the first half, but it looked like Schotty made some good adjustments at the half because the Jets were able to move the chains well in the second half and eat the hell out of the clock. They made Sanchez throw it and he didn't disappoint.

I'm going to do another re-watch in Wednesday and focus on the rushing attack to see what breakdowns there were, but I share your concerns - just for both Leon and TJ. Neither of them stood out to me as being effective yesterday. I have a feeling we may get our first look at Shonn Greene in week 3.

Exactly, when defenses stop throwing the kitchen table at trying to stop the run, then we will see more of those crazy Leon/Jones long gainers, but until then let Sanchez break em with a few good passes here and there, i'm loving what Cotchery has done this season as well as Keller and Chansi, these guys are quickly making us forget about trying to get another wide-out even though I believe we should take a WR in the draft somewhere

Wow. So you're complaining about the lack of a running game? Do you know that we lead the league in rushing attempts and are 6th in YPG? And that we've done it against teams obviously geared up to stop the run?

We are also 14th in YPC and that is nothing to write home about.

Thomas Jones is over rated however there is nothing wrong with our running game. Shotty runs a WCO that is heavily geared toward passing. Our biggest offensive weapon is the QB. His biggest weapons are the WR the TE and Leon. That's how we score points. The running game is fine we will have a lot less YPC than last year but a lot more attempts which will help our passing game be less predictable.

Winston the point is. The team was built to run first. What happens if the passing attack fails? Theres nothing to fall back on.

The o-line looks like it's struggling a little bit in the rushing game but I think it'll get better as the season goes on. The Texans / Patriots have some very good d-linemen (who weren't hurt) and can create problems for offensive lines. It's still early... the offense will find its groove.

The more Sanchez proves himself, the less defenses will focus on stopping the run.

I think what's most important is the team was able to run the ball in the 4th quarter of both games when it had to.

This team is built to pass the ball out of all kinds of different formations with a lot of tempo. This team will run the ball it is not built to run first.

Our run game has been extremely effective so far.

The most important contribution our rushing attack has made hasn't been on gameday. It's the week leading up to gameday, when defensive coordinators are telling their units "We've gotta stop the run. We're gonna prepare all week to stop the run."

The running game is keeping every team honest against Sanchez. There has been positively nothing wrong with the running attack during the first two games. The offense has been very well-balanced, and the Jets should keep it that way.

And for the record, I wouldn't call the Pats' run D "mediocre" as long as there is a 350-pound behemoth by the name of Vince Wilfork playing nose tackle.

Yeah, only when you run right at him and that seemed to be the run call all day long. What was with that?

I don't think it was built to run first. I think that was the company line to start the season. I think the offense is being built on balance, and if it was a run-first situation, we never would have drafted Sanchez in the first place.

We saw in the first half yesterday what happens when the passing attack fails. What happens is we punt the ball away and the defense limits the other team to field goals to keep the game within reach while our O tries to find some kind of a rhythm to get things going, and at worst, make some adjustments at the half to get a rhythm. And it happened. Will Sanchez have his bad days? More than likely, and on those occasions we will most likely come away with a loss.

But the beauty of our situation is that when team start to respect #6, things are going to open up on the ground and Leon and TJ and (godwilling) Shonn Greene will end up running wild. I have a feeling that the Titans game could very well be the 2009 coming-out party for the Jets' rushing attack.

tj had a similar slow start last year. i believe after the bye week he went crazy. hopefully we can continue to win while the running game is lacking. when it clicks we should be an even more dangerous team.

TJ has been useless to me. If someone just looked at the stats from the Houston game they would think that TJ carried us to that win when in reality he was a non-factor and being kept at bay before breaking those two lucky runs toward the end of the game. Those two plays are also why his YPC average is as high as it is right now.

Maybe someone's RB will go down before the trade deadline and if we're lucky we could deal him for a 3rd round pick or something.

its a run more than pass, be accurate and smart with the passing game - offense.
