After last nights pick the Jets haven't draft offensive in round 1 in the past 6 drafts. For a team that has struggled offensively during that span is just pathetic. Such a disgrace that we have only drafted two WRs in the first round in the last 20 years (Keyshawn and Santana). If we don't go offense here at the top of the 2nd I'm not gonna be pleased. Go get DGB.
I would disagree if you can land a talent like Gregory in round 2 you do it and don't hesitate. This guy has top 10 talent. If he's gone I don't go WR i go O-line. Our weapons will be okay next year not great but more than serviceable... Marshall, decker, kerley, Amaro, Ivory and (hopefully another RB in 3rd or 4th round) The pick should be O-line not wr if we go offense.
Now that Amari Cooper and White are gone, the 2nd round should get us another Stephen Hill. I agree , all this pick does is allow Woody to be a tightass and not give Mo his long term contract he deserves. We're already stacked on the defensive line, fucking stacked, we need another DE like we need to replace Revis at corner. It's the last need we have so why draft a DE again? Makes no sense at all to me, especially when they trade Mo. White is a freak athlete with really good hands, we haven't drafted an offensive play maker in forever, it's no wonder our offense is pitiful every friggin year and we win 4 games.
Just a question, if we can somehow turn Mo and some extra picks/players/whatever into a good QB, would people still be upset about the pick and not giving Mo his "due"? I have nothing to base this off of btw, 100% speculation on my part. Just trying to start conversation.
Exactly...our offensive problem is the QB...nothing less or more...and we weren't getting one of those at 6. So boo freakin' hoo....let's get into the 2nd round and keep on chuggin'. A+ for the 1st round pick!
this x1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 you put a top tier QB on a team with Marshall, Decker, Ivory etc and a reasonable offensive line and this defense and we would be top playoff contenders the problem the jets have almost always had is a lack of a franchise QB to build around
New players in 2015 Brandon Marshall Stevan Ridley new OG Ryan Fitzpatrick NO If Gregory is on the clock he is 1000000% the pick.
Fitzpatrick with Marshall, Decker and Amaro (who I think takes a leap forward), along with kerley and a decent running game, PAIRED with this INSANE looking defense can be MORE than ample for us.
hopefully - but imagine what we would be if we had a top 5 QB (it makes me sad we have never known that feeling and teams like the Packers and Colts strike gold twice in a row)
Every team but 5 teams are saying the same thing. Not many teams are boasting our defense, and offensive upgrades we've made so far. I want a top 5 QB as bad as the next guy...But let's operate in reality and what we're working with. IF doing so this is the best Jets offseason I've ever seen.
So after watching Justin Blackmon and Josh Gordon basically piss their careers away due to behavioral issues, you want us to go after another troubled wide receiver? I think with Decker, Marshall and Amaro that we have plenty of weapons in the passing game. We need offensive line help, not a mercurial receiver. There is the cute storyline that Marshall was once troubled and could help mentor DGB (which I like), but I would rather not gamble a second round pick on someone who has a history of finding trouble (and NY may be a little too much for him).
As hard as Geno sucked last year, the offensive line's ability to pass protect and Marty's horrible playcalling did him no favors. We have a stop-gap at QB (fitz) so if Geno doesn't grow up (he's only 24) we can always attack QB next year. Our team is in a really good place compared to last year. Reaching for a QB in a desolate free agency is a dumb decision. This is how you end up with Jay Cutler for 126 million dollars and 54 guaranteed. You want that?
the hell? we have playmakers on offense, whats the OP talking about? we can certainly get more, we probably will tonight, but lets not treat what we have NOW like chopped liver. we can go to war with this roster as is, thats the GOOD news. we could afford to go williams because we got BM, we could afford to not immediately address the O because its fine the way it is, we can TOP IT OFF with the rest of the class, get a WR in waiting that doesn't have to be a huge contributor out the gate.
how do you take my post and come to the conclusion that I am advocating reaching for a QB in FA? Unless you get a freakish situation like a QB of the caliber of Brees coming onto the market when he went to the Saints then its hard to see how FA would solve our problems - we need to get lucky in the draft and find a guy we can put in place for a decade or more as it is the only way pretty much to get prolonged success.
I would swap a top tier QB for Revis or anyone else on the defense in the smallest unit of time that it is possible to imagine.
Decker/Kerley/Marshall/ at WR Ivory/Powell/Ridley at RB Amaro/Cumberland at TE Is a lot of talent and we have wild cards in Evans/Enunwa/Owusu that could potentially emerge as legit weapons.
Is the Jets offense "The Greatest Team on Turf"? No... But I think it's good enough to be competitive. I wish people would stop beating "we need to upgrade the QB" drum, because it's not going to happen. Not in this draft. So move on. The front office has to upgrade the talent around Geno and the coaches have to coach him up!! If the Jets are definitively going with Geno, it's up to Chan and coach Bowles to design an offense that takes advantage what he can do well. My hope is that the Jets draft one more deep threat (either Strong or Green-Beckham) or another running back. Of course if Gregory is available, take him.
