I've been hearing all this crap about Revis and how he wants to get paid and should be the highest paid cornerback. It's all bullshit, yes I like the guy and I'm happy he is a Jet but this contract renegotiation shit is for the birds. He signed a good contract for a rookie and it was at least the 15th highest rookie contract the year we signed him. NO one broke his arm to sign it and he seemed happy to get it. He could have held out for more or signed a short one but he didn't. Now he wants more money, guaranteed more money too yet who is to say if he signs a 6 year deal now he won't be pulling the same shit in three years. The best thing for the Jets to do is not do anything. He is ours for three years and so what after that. We can franchise tag him which would still be a lot cheaper after that. If he gets hurt or his performance drops off it doesn’t kill the team for the next decade. The Jets have held tough before and should hold tough now. Revis has no negotiating power and we still have him on the team for years to come. Yes at some point he will walk and might not be happy when he does, but it is a business after all. We need to worry about the guys we will lose and the ones who are most important like Mangold! What happens to a man/player holding up his side on a contract? The team never gets money back if they turn out to be worthless like the Ghost and we don't get the big money back if they get hurt or performance drops off. Revis is doing what he thinks is the best for him, the Jets should stick to their guns and do what is best for the team. Nothing! The number of good players we coul retain for 15-20 million is insane. No one except Peyton frig'n Manning should get that much money, because he truely is irreplaceable and that team would be nothing without him. In four years the jets still would be a good team, even better and in a place where losing Revis would not cripple us. You all can say what you will, but it is better business sense and better for the team to at least make him wait two years for a new deal, if we give him one at all.
There are a couple of problems with that. 1) His last 2 years were voided because he met the performance clauses. We can buy them back for $5M and $15M but the money would be guaranteed and we'd have to work out another deal rather quickly. 2) The Jets have promised him a new deal. He has outplayed his rookie deal and earned a new contract. The Jets need to show good faith here.
This is a business? Good to know so many knowledgeable businessmen out there are willing to give unsolicited financial advice to the Jets.
The guy is gonna get signed by the Jets and it'll be a little rough getting there. Geez. You'd think the season starts tomorrow.
4,329 posts and I have no idea who this guy is, and this thread is probably the reason why. by the logic you are using, I'm rather certain you couldn't manage a 7-11 nevertheless an NFL team, so what the Jets should or shouldn't do is beyond your capabilities to argue.
It also might be because he has literally the most generic username one could possibly have on a Jets fan message board.
