There are a number of glaring holes in our team , which one should be addressed first by the draft.
If you have a player in mind , also post a link to him. thanks.

You put TE (which we JUST drafted and dont need now) over Safety?

Well I'd say CB, THEN S.

I think we should go with the best player available in the area of need. This means:
    1) QB M. Sanchez
    2) LB Laurinaitis or Maualuga
    3) CB Jenkins or maaaaybe Davis but I'm not that sold on him
    4) DE Jackson

One of these guys is going to fall to us at 17... and actually i wouldn't mind to trade down a couple of places if anyone wants to get one of those RB which are supposed to go starting from middle 1st round.
Ps if none of these guys fall to us at 17 we might as well trade in the high 2nd round so we can get Britt.
Pps My vote goes to LB since that's our major area of need.

Here's the thing about this team.... if they took a punter FIRST, would you be surprised?

I wouldn't--- and neither would you. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I said OTHER because of the fact we have several need positions. At the top of my list is a CB or a fast cover safety that could play centerfield and allow Rhodes to roam around, blitz, jump routes, take some risks.

At LB, if we lose Barton, we have a need inside. We don't know if Ryan can get Gholston's engine going, so that situation makes it difficlut to project. If Gholston can come around, Pace could play DE on passing downs, boosting the pass rush hopefully.

I'd like to see a good offensive guard taken early (day one) for depth behind Moore and Fanecca.

I don't see the tall speed WR in this draft class, and we are stuck with Coles for another year. Maybe Stuckey and or Clowney can stretch the field. I think Brad Smith has outlived his usefulness.

I imagine we look for an RB early on day 2 of the draft.

My guess is best player available at CB or cover safety.

Ryan is known for defense and we were terribly lacking in the sack and pressure dept.
I say two LBs with the first two picks.....

Depends on what we do in FA but I'm thinking safety right now.

    1. QB if Sanchez falls
    2. CB if one of the good ones is still there
    3. WR if one of the good ones is still there
    4. LB if none of the above
    5. DE if none of the above
    6. S if none of the above

All due respect...........there's no Safety worth the 17th selection. Will Moore was in the mix, but has proved himself to be a a one-year wonder his Junior season, and struggled all Senior Bowl week. Moore's Senior campaigh was uninspired....coverage skills were awful.

As of right now, it there's probably going to be no Safety drafted in Rd 1. Rashard Johnson & Moore could fall into very late Rd 1.....but it's doubtful. Sean Smith, who can convert to Safety may rise into late Rd 1, watch out for Smith he's going to be a player.

Moore did battle the injury bug, but he isn't a cover safety, that's for sure, he's too slow for that. He's a big hitter and sometimes too aggressive.

I figure DJ Moore (the CB Moore, not the S) or Davis should still be there at the Jets' pick. Moore is a bit smallish but could contribute as a return man. I like Jenkins, but he will likely be gone.

Frankly, I think this is a weak draft class. The LB position may be the deepest, but guys like Laurainatis carry a lot of question maks, some scouts are down on him. Maualuga would be great value, but he'll be off the board. I won't even dream about Curry falling that far.

Good call, I agree. Except I may put S before DE...

I voted for Defensive End. While I would love to get a game changer at WR I dont know if there will be one available that is worth that type of pick especially when we have other needs.

I think we might be better off drafting a WR in the second or trading for a guy like Boldin or Edwards (which would cost our first anyway)

CB and LB I feel are big needs but I think they can be adressed through Free agency. We have talked about Bart Scott a lot on here so there is no need to talk about him some more. He's the guy I want. As for CB. Well if we can get pressure on the QB its only going to make it easier on the secondary. I think we can adress that need through Free agency to by signing your average CB (maybe somebody like Cory Ivy for example).

So I would draft a Defensive end. Some of the best ones out there are Evverett Brown, Aarron Maybin, Brian Orakapo, and Michael Johnson. Another guy to consider though I doubt he falls after his dominating senior bowl is B.J Raji. He can play NT or DE and can get to the QB. He would be a great addition to our team.

This is a tough poll to decide on at this point...because I want to see how Free Agency plays out.

I voted CB/Safety....based on the assumption that we sit on our asses during FA.

I'm thinking a guy like Vontae Davis or Malcolm Jenkins to play opposite of Revis..would be a smart pick at this point in time. But i'll reserve judgment till after the combine and FA. :)

The way the draft is looking right now, CB will probably be the BAP when the Jets pick at #17.

Likely a number of the top DL/OLB candidates (Raji, Orakpo, Everette Brown) and QB (Stafford, Sanchez) will be off the board by then. ILB like Maualuga or Laurinaitis could be available but there are question marks about both players. And I'm thinking we pick up Bart Scott in FA.

That leaves most of the top CB for the Jets to pick from. Luckily that fits the team needs very well. A solid rookie CB could even move Lowrey to S. That would give us a strong coverage group and would be an improvement from last season. So I wouldn't be surprised if the team went that way.

We NEED a backup for Jenkins. We need a cover LB. We need another cornerback or safety. We could really use a #1 receiver. Oh yeah, we NEED a QB.

    In summation:

    0. QB
    1. NT
    2. cover LB
    3. CB/S
    4. WR

    Agreed.

Off the top of my head, it seems DL (obviously we don't need at NT) is the one area where teams need to invest in Day One picks - think about the great DL's in the league...DAL, NYG, BAL, NE, PIT, TEN, MIN. There's quite a few first rounders on those lines if I'm not mistaken.

There's a better chance of getting quality players at other positions later in the draft than there is at DL or DE, specifically.

I think without a doubt we need to draft on the defensive side first at the very least, and I would imagine Ryan will be looking at it the same way.

Here's a blurb on the 46 defense Ryan plans to run:

The 46 is a gambling, high-pressure defense. In its basic formation, the defense crowds the line of scrimmage with six players: a nose tackle, two defensive ends, two linebackers and a rush end. Another linebacker and a safety play right behind them. That leaves the cornerbacks in one-on-one coverage with the free safety roaming as a "center fielder." The goal is to put constant pressure on the quarterback and to make running the football difficult, if not impossible.

    **********************

So the Jets need to have two excellent CB who can both handle one-on-one matchups to run this scheme. That's another reason to suggest the Jets will go CB with their first pick.

    precisely.

This is why i'm waiting for FA to play out....we have some holes that should be filled before the draft....it's tough to guage what position we should go after without knowing what happens during FA, IMO.

We need some good fucking defensive players. Our defense is shit, draft a linebacker. Why do the Steelers make the playoffs every year? I hate watching our soft ass d. Maybe a ss too, because rhodes was shit this past season. I am most disappointed in his performance. Compettion might be good for him, and FS in my oppion is wide open. We might as well play with 10 on the field FS blows. Our pass rush has been terrible for a decade. average at best.
