I don't like what the Jets are doing with the Fullback position to be honest. Last year they had Lex Hilliard, this year it's Bohannon, they seem to be going for this kind of hybrid FB/RB approach at the position, much like how teams are transitioning towards hybrid TE/WR's at the TE position. And I see the advantages to it, I really do; it helps to have an extra weapon who can run out into the flat and catch a dump off pass, or a guy who can take the rock out of the split gun formation after faking the hand off to the RB...... but I miss having our 6th offensive lineman, something we had when T-Richardson was around. Overall, as much as I see what the Jets are trying to do with bringing in guys who are primarily RB's but a little bigger and making them FB's, it just doesn't seem to be working, and our run game hasn't been as good as it was when T-Rich was around acting as our 6th lineman.

Fullback is such an underrated position if you ask me, I mean these are the guys that pick off those linebackers/safeties trying to converge on a hole the O-line has made. I was thinking to myself after tonight's game, how the running game is pretty much how I expected it to be. I didn't expect big runs, 60 yard touchdown runs, I expected a running style exactly like what we saw out of Ivory today, consistent 5-6 yard runs to shorten the chains and give Geno an opportunity to make short passes and get the first down. I thought maybe we will get more explosiveness out of the run game when Goodson comes back, because I know Powell and Ivory don't really have that second level speed, but you know what, Thomas Jones never really had any explosive second level speed but yet he got several 20+ yard runs in '09. He was very patient behind the O-line and often ran behind Richardson allowing him to knock off the first defender through a hole. I'm afraid with Bohannon at FB, even with Goodson back, we won't have anybody to clear the holes the O-line makes to allow Goodson a chance to get into the secondary to make a big play.

I may be in the minority, but I would rather see the Jets bring in a traditional FB again. I remember T-Rich couldn't catch for shit, and wasn't a very experienced runner, but boy could he block, and we need a guy that could do that again..... we tried in John Conner, but he wasn't very good and since then the team has gone with a hybrid FB last year, and seem to be committed to using one again this year, with no positive results.

    Thoughts?
