As reported in today's Star-Ledger, Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Moring News did an in depth study of injuries in the NFL last year and the effect on various teams. He based his study on starters games missed due to injury. The Jets were the 4th least injured team with 19 games lost by starters... However 16 of those losses were the games Curtis Martin lost to injury which made the Jets the least injured team in the NFL.

Yes, that's right. You finally got something right. I saw Edwards' training camps. I saw Mangini's training camps. Edwards' teams get ravaged by injuries. Mangini's doesn't. See any connection there?

I think we all know, Mr. Jensen, that you feel the lack of injuries somehow lessens the coaching accomplishment of Eric Mangini. I would say that the Jets were certainly fortunate to be healthy but to say they were the 2004 team now fully returned would be innacurate. They no longer had their pro bowl center, their pro bowl pass rusher, or their hall of fame running back. They also changed schemes on both the offense and defense and put 2 rookies on the OL. They also had different starting receivers and they didn't have Chrebet for any part of the year. Because of this, and because the Jets looked innovative, disciplined, and well practiced on the field this year, I would still call Mangini's coaching performance remarkable this year. I don't know of how any true Jet fan could be unhappy with the job he did going 10-6 and making the playoffs.

I find this hysterically ironic and darned funny. jensen is trying to make a case that Edwards had bad luck, and Mangini had good luck as far as injuries go. But, he actually points out how Edwards' teams were injury prone. Hey jensen, you remember when the Jets strength and conditioning coach quit because Hermie would not back him up and help him enforce his fitness program?

Edwards teams are soft because Edwards is soft. Ever see the Jets run wind sprints at Hermie's training camps? Me neither, although I did watch them jog for 35 yards four times. Edwards does not prepare his players to be properly conditioned to play in the NFL.

Mangini does. I've seen his training camps too. Wind sprints, laps, and they actually DO stretch instead of sitting on the field yukking it up. Edwards' coaches didn't even WATCH them stretch. Manini's coaches are out there, forcing them to not only stretch, but to get the technoque correct, so that it actually helps their flexabilty, and makes them less prone to injury. Some of the players don't like it. Apparently, you don't like it either.

I reckon Jensen is a good poster around here, even if everyone jumps him as soon as he posts. He sparks debate and brings different points of view to the boards, even if they are all critical of the Mangini regime.

His threads get a stack of responses, and I'm certain his detractors look forward to him posting, even if that means they get to use swear words they wouldn't normally!!

At least he makes you think about why the Jets are much better under Mangini; much better than having a hundred threads where everyone agrees with one another and repeat the same arguments ad nauseum.

... it took you 3 months to come up with that one? I'm disappointed in you.

Disciplined? Another urban myth. If Mangini is such a great defensive genious why were the Jets the 29th most penalized defensive unit in the NFL? Schottenheimer produced a 26th ranked offense.

    Schotenheimer's offense:

    Mangini's 'disciplined' derfense:

Cupcake schedule (one win vs a winning team) masks an overrated HC coach abilities.

The last five years of Jet history come down to a single fact.... No Pennington, no playoffs. Jets have made the playoffs three of the last five years with a healthy Pennington... regardless of coaching staff or surrounding players.

And the same tired deadenders want to blame Pennington for not winning a Super Bowl.

Speaking of which, John Lott got fired from the Browns. I love him at the combine, and I would love to hire him again.

Old Bob is a troll, man. He may accidentally create some decent discussions, but I attribute that to the people that respond to his threads, the membership on the board. He has stated numerous times that his only intent on this board is to 'Piss off the Jennifer Jets Cadre.'

The funny thing with jensen is that when you disprove what he's trying to say, he simply ignores the facts, and goes off on another tangent. He's not here for discussion, as byz said, he's here soley to troll and try to get people PO'd. Some take the bait.

Settle down, gentlemen. Troll or not, this guy raises a valid point. The Jets were especially lucky with injuries this year. And it's not a Mangini vs. Herm thing - it's just luck. Next year there will hopefully be some more depth so it won't be that big a factor.

Yeah, I agree the decent discussion come down to the responses to his threads: he probably does try to set out to piss people off, but that makes for a better board than everyone p*ssing in each other's pockets.

Just luck, huh? So our decrease in injuries had nothing to do with proper conditioning?
