Best movie of 2015. Quentin Tarantino does it again. Original screenplays are so rare these days, and this movie will not disappoint. Hard to discuss without giving anything away spoiler wise. However, this one keeps you guessing til the end.
I like movies that take place in a enclosed environment or one location. As usual the dialogue and characters were great. The violence was extremely gratuitous in this one...Tarantino definitely has something wrong in his head, but for me like Reservoir Dogs it is similar in nature and that is why I love how the film was. I also love Westerns and Ennio Morricone is a soundtrack legend. He scored one of my all time favorite movies (Once upon a time in the west and other the Segio Leone movies) For me this is better then Django Unchained, not as good as Inglorious Basterds.
Not sure how great it will be, even though I've liked most of Tarantino's stuff and am a huge Kurt Russell fan. I'm still gonna watch the shit out of it. Related: I watched Bone Tomahawk last night. What the fuck!
LOL I can probably download it, but it's Kurt Fucking Russell. Maybe after watching Luke Skywalker reveal himself as the bad guy in Star Wars.
I have to disagree. I think Django Unchained is one the of the best movies in the last 5 years. No insult to The Hateful Eight, which I also enjoyed, but Django was much better. Not even close. As for it being gratuitous, I agree. Especially Jennifer Jason Leigh. Good Lord, she was gross to look at the entire film and it just kept getting worse!
Bone Tomahawk was great...started off slow but the ending was brutal. The Hateful Eight and The Revenant were both really good movies and both were leaked a month ago.
I watched Revenant this weekend. I haven't seen The Danish Girl, but I can't see how Leo finally doesn't pull it off.
Would be really suprised if Leo wins the Oscar for this one, he largely grunts through his role without much range (not really his fault- its what the script calls for). Its hard to win for acting in a film that relies on visual storytelling to drive the narrative.
Strongly disagree. Pulling off a role which is largely reliant upon physical acting is very difficult. Also, word about character preparation get around the academy and they take these things into consideration when voting for the awards. Leo's character preparation for this role was off the charts. Additionally, the way they filmed the movie was very guerrilla style. I very much appreciated the craft in which the movie was made.
Yeah all respect in the world to him and the crew for nearly killing themselves to shoot the damn thing, but I guess its a question of if that makes up for a disappointingly flat performance imo- which as I said before was more of a function of the script than the actor. As far as the craft of the movie, all credit will go to Iñárritu as an auteur that films in a unconventional and daring style , not Leo. He deserves one at this point for all hes done in his career, but getting it for The Revenant would be, to me, a make up call in a weak year without a clear front runner.
Fair opinion. I definitely appreciate the point of view. If he does get the Oscar, I would probably agree it would be a "culmination" award. Was this performance one of his strongest? I'd say. Was it one of his best? No. Again, I have not seen The Danish Girl but I hear Eddie Red is locked for a back-to-back Oscar. It would make sense with the transgender issue being a primary social issue in current events and the academy usually follows the politics with social issues. It could be close.
Haven't seen it either but I'm thinking you could be right. The Oscar usually is served up to whoever covers a social issue.
My son saw it and he said "Dad, if you couldn't understand Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, you're going to hate The Revenant because that's basically every character". I get trying to create a realistic feel for the time period but really? Had very high hopes for this and now I think I'm going to wait for it on DVD. _
Stokes your son is correct. I can't fucking undertand Tom Hardy. I couldn't understand him in Peaky Blinders. I couldn't understand him in Legend and I certainly couldn't understand him in the beginning of the Revenant.
Or Mad Max or The Drop lol. Kind of like the remake of True Grit with Jeff Bridges. Couldn't understand 3/4s of what he said. _
Leo deserves it this year...It is his best chance. He was unreal, who cares there was little dialogue. His presence and emotions carried the film. I think Redmayne is his biggest competition though. I see Golden Globes going to Redmayne (international critics love that flair in a role), but the Oscar going to Leo for Revenant
