First off I like many of you do not love Schotty, I think he gets way too cute at times and out smarts himself---my buddy pointed this out to me during the game, I did not see it when it took place live, so I rewatched the series today. On 3rd down when Sanchez tried to hit Holmes and the ball was almost picked off--if you get a chance to rewatch it or hear an answer as to why right after the play Brandon Moore gets very animated and races over to Sanchez, I mean it looks as if he might be pissed and appears to get in the qb's face---I cannnot imagine why he would do that, the only thing that is coming to mind is , could Sanchez have changed that play at the line and called it himself ? Could that have been a run call and Mark audibled to hit Holmes? If any of you have it or saw it tell me what you think.
There was only one steeler within ten feet of the right side of our offensive line. we could have walked it in while singing showtunes
That play selection still hurts to think about. It should have been a run. Even if you get to the half yard line, that still makes slamming it in that much easier. There's no real benefit to passing there. Run twice. We have all year, so I don't know why it changed then, especially looking at the defensive formation. If we get that TD, there's 8 minutes left, and we've been on their offense in the second half. We had a very good shot at then tying the game.
Dumb play whoever called it. Too much traffic in the lane. Too short a pattern to lob the ball over Woodley. Just a clusterfuck all around. The pass to Keller was a decent call. Poor pass and worse (non)catch.
And after all that, the special team blunders, the terrible play calls on the goal line - - the defense still had a chance to make a stop and get us the ball back with some time for Sanchez to work his late game magic. Greene should have been given the ball on 3rd and 1, and if he did not get in, he should have gotten it again on 4th and 1. If Sanchez did change the play, it will leak out eventually. Did Moore look really pissed? Or was he just trying to tell Sanchez something about the 4th and 1 play. It was pretty chaotic with the sets going down.
I'm pretty sure it was LT in the game on 3rd and 4th down. Greene is a much better runner in that situation, he gains more yards after initial contact than LT who is more of a cutback/slasher kind of runner. I was very upset it wasn't Greene on that 4th and 1 carry, he had been much more effective runner throughout the game. Unless he was hurt, I know he was shook up on a earlier play that went out of bounds.
Ugh. I hate to say it but after thinking about it all day. Whatever. Keller should have caught the ball. He was the only player in that set of plays to get a chance and he failed. Catch that ball! All around fuck up. I feel no ill will towards Keller. Play calling was atrocious. But it was in his hands
the game was lost by the defense, especially in the first half. blaming the offensive coordinator is looking at the wrong side of the ball.
The defense was on the field for the entire first half. I'm not saying they played well, the run defense was atrocious. But our offense is what kept our D on the field way too long. 1 rushing yard? Brilliant.
Im kind of amazed we rarely ever use the seminal option when near the goalline. Like honestly I think that has to be one of the hardest plays imaginable to stop. Having Smith able to just run it in, pitch it out to either side, hand it to a back up the middle or a short ass pass to an unguarded wr/te. It just seems perfect for goallines
If it seems logical and sensible...it has no place in the Schottenheimer playbook. Get with the program.
NYJFAN---I don't think Moore would run up to Sanchez and tell him that he just made a SHIT THROW---I don't think he would need to be told that I am sure he knew it -----to answer yes Moore was very animated and to me looked as if he was mad and ran over to Sanchez, if anyone else saw it or taped it look at 3rd down again and you see it clear as day after the play---I know SANCHEZ made a bad pass on 2nd down,,,and I also hate Schotty and his cuteness at the wrong times---but I think Schotty might get a pass on this one. After all that was key part of the game that goaline stand and it changed the complexion completely
Or maybe Moore ran to Sanchez and told him to tell Schotty to run the fucking ball and quit with this cutesy shit. He obviously couldn't run to the sideline to tell him himself, so why not the guy with the helmet radio
To defend Schotty, he might have felt it was a safe pass and even if incomplete, would have taken little time off the clock. I get the first throw. I dont get the second throw. That should have either been a run or a bootleg by Sanchez. And, on 4th, I dont love how the Jets never give it to the FB there or use a qb sneak. Everyone knew it was a run, so might as well have given the defenders less time to get low and dig in.
shit or even a play action quick screen to LT -- they guy is great out of the backfield catching the ball
let it go people, we all know they should have given it to Shonn for as many tries as it may have taken to get in. they boasted to be a ground and pound team, but completely abandoned that notion once down there. it was painful, let it go as soon as possible.
