Lets say we acquire shaub who is only 24 years old and will be a free agent next year. Lets then assume that chad has a solid year playing all 16 games and throwing for about 21 tds and 14 ints. We are then essentially left with a back up qb in shaub whom we traded first round talent for.

Imo this is why im scared to invest so much in a backup veteran qb. One variable that can throw a huge wrench into our plans is if chad comes back healthy and we are stuck with shaub who would then probably leave us the following year, while abe is racking up 15 sacks for the falcons on his way to his 4th probowl. Trading abe for a player who is not guaranteed to contribute now or in the future is absolutely not what i am looking for. If we draft a qb he would at least be 21-22 years old and would be signed until chad is 31-32 whereas shaub could possibly leave us the following season.

    Discuss.

If Chad comes back healthy we can trade him, win-win.

no one will want him, if he is healthy, but our other QB is better - than Penny will become out back-up

Even if he's healthy, his arm still won't be strong enough. I see him as a backup from here on out.

That's how I feel, but I think it is time to move forward.

I don't really want to bring in a FA QB either. Starting to think it is too expensive unless Washington comes to their senses, but that is about it.

I would like to draft a QB and groom him for a year.

If Chad comes back healthy - he's sure to be un-healthy within 4 games.

Schaub will be a RFA next year, so essentially would be Jets property for 2 years. I still think it is silly to trade much for him.

I would rather give up a 6th for Ramsey than the package ATL is asking for

I think if we got Shaub they would be competing for the starting spot. From what I've read, no one has guaranteed Pennington a starting spot and they have clearly been looking at other QBs. Also, Pennington won't have any advantage over the QBs he will be competing against because we are running a new offense for a 3rd year in a row.

If Chad comes back healthy, he still isn't going to be young by the team we're contenders. He's getting up there in age - slowly, but surely.

it would be the same as the chargers situation 2 years ago.. if we draft a QB.
If we get shaub, I see him beating out chad for the starting spot and chad being the back up this year and then being cut.

Good provocative post. IMO Chad is done. He had a weak arm BEFORE either surgery. He gives you a lot of determination and intangibles, but you can't make an atom bomb without uranium. After surgery 1, he had no arm in game 2 last year against Miami. After the second injury and surgery, I think he will essentially get paid for a year to sit on the bench and then will be cut. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. I like Ramsey for a one year fix. If he turns out good, resign him. If not then develop this year's QB that we draft (Young?), or use 2007 #1 on QB.

Chad is going to suck. I hate to say it, but he's going to suck. He was being called "noodle arm" BEFORE his surgeries...

that's surgeries...plural.. both on his throwing arm's rotator cuff.... he had a noodle arm before that, he's going to be throwing knuckleballs now. He isn't a pitcher getting Tommy John surgery, taking a year off, and coming back better than ever... This is a medium built(at best) noodle armed QB with a shoulder being held together with crazy glue and prayer, coming back and playing the most physically demanding sport there is.

I love Chad, but it isn't gonna happen.
