I read in a few places that Coles had some daylight and should have taken off with it. I am assuming you guys are talking about the second time he got it on the play. Looking back on it, I am actually happy Coles didnt score a TD b/c if he did I would have been pissed since the play would have been called back. Brad Smith was clearly down before he was able to lateral it. Not only one,but both his knees were down while he still had the ball.
Yeah, there would have been a booth review and you may be correct about what I bolded. Besides that, the refs erred by not throwing their flags on the play. I have written about the penalties the Jets actually committed on the play. Instead of rehashing it once again, just check my post history. The rule/penalty is covered in the Supplemental Note following Rule 8, Section 4, Article 2 in the Official Rules of the NFL. I believe the Elias Sports Bureau will officially charge the Jets with a penalty on the final play.
The daylight I saw was the first time he had the ball. Like other people have said their is no way of knowing for sure, but it looked like daylight to me.
I'm hoping they cover this play on NFL Network when Rich Eisen has his chat with Mike Pereira this week. Anyone know when that will air? Hopefully we'll get to see a shot of the whole field.
I keep looking at it and toward the end you'll see two Colts further pressed back towards the goal line that probably never engaged blockers, you don't think they could get to Coles before he runs 30 yards into the endzone?
