I see it as they know they are going to get paid a kings ransom from the browns for Gorrapolo. Why not grab the talent and have better picks to go along with it.
try winning consistently without one. Try winning a superbowl at all, ever, without one..quick, name the last team that did!!!!! clock is ticking,. Times up..Tampa Bay, 2003 with Brad Johnson..now name the last one before that..time's up again and I can't think of any others..ever.
Which is why you're the least knowledgeable poster. In the 21st century, there were the 2016 Broncos, 2013 Ravens, 2008 and 2012 Giants, and 2001 Ravens. Also Brady wasn't elite when he won his first SB.
Yeah. The biggest part. What has Kraft REALLY done for the team? Pardon my ignorance, I'm just curious what he does differently than Woody and how this translates to the field. He's not the GM, so aside from hiring your current GM, what has he done that makes him so great as an owner? It's always much easier when you have the best QB in the history of football on your roster. Easy to say you have great ownership because you win, but do you win because of great ownership?
Well, to be fair, he did say win consistently. He was off about naming SB winners without elite QBs, although some people do consider Flacco and Eli Manning close to elite. Every team that was mentioned has been anything but a consistent winner. The giants make the playoffs once every 5 years. The Ravens have been on and off, although they have been competitive aside from the last few years. It's a simple fact that teams with elite QBs win more consistently than those without. This doesn't apply everywhere though, because some teams out there (cough Saints, Colts) just have horrible personnel management. An elite QB isn't the be all, end all, but it is the biggest factor out of them all, if you're talking about consistency.
Here is a list of the winningest teams from 2005-2015. The Jets are higher on this list than expected, actually, but it's pretty obvious that an elite QB = consistency. 1. New England Patriots — 122 wins (9 playoff appearances) - Brady 2. Indianapolis Colts — 110 wins (9) - Peyton Manning and some Andrew Luck 3. Pittsburgh Steelers — 101 wins (6) - Big Ben 4. Green Bay Packers — 98 wins (7) - Aaron Rodgers and a little Favre 5. San Diego Chargers — 97 wins (5) - Phillip Rivers 6. Baltimore Ravens — 96 wins (7) - Flacco 7. Denver Broncos — 95 wins (5) 4 years with Manning and a mix of others 8. Dallas Cowboys — 93 wins (4) - Romo 9. Seattle Seahawks — 91 wins (7) - Wilson 10. New Orleans Saints — 90 wins (5) - Brees 10. New York Giants — 90 wins (5)- Eli Manning 12. Chicago Bears — 89 wins (3) - Cutler 13. Philadelphia Eagles — 86 wins (5) - McNabb / Vick 14. Atlanta Falcons — 85 wins (4) - Matt Ryan 15. Cincinnati Bengals — 84 wins (6) - Palmer / Dalton 15. San Francisco 49ers — 81 wins (3) - Smith / Kaepernick / other garbage 17. Carolina Panthers — 80 wins (4) - Newton / Delhomme 18. Arizona Cardinals — 76 wins (3) - Kurt Warner / Carson Palmer / other garbage 19. Tennessee Titans — 73 wins (2) - Too many to list, Vince Young 19. New York Jets — 73 wins (3) - we know this story 21. Houston Texans — 72 wins (2) - Mostly Schaub - a grab bag of other garbage 22. Miami Dolphins — 70 wins (1) Tannehill, Henne, Mix 23. Kansas City Chiefs — 68 wins (3) - Alex Smith / Cassel / others 24. Minnesota Vikings –– 67 wins (3) 2 years of Favre, some Bridgewater, some Ponder a mix of others 25. Jacksonville Jaguars — 65 wins (2) - mostly crappers. 26. Washington Redskins — 64 wins (3) - RG3, Campbell, crappers 27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers — 63 wins (2) - Freeman, Garcia, mix 28. Buffalo Bills — 63 wins (0) - Fitz and mix of shit 29. Detroit Lions — 55 wins (2) - Stafford 30. Cleveland Browns — 53 wins (0) - crappers 31. St. Louis Rams — 49 wins (0) - Bulger / Bradford others 32. Oakland Raiders — 47 wins (0) nobody consistent until Carr this year When you look at the top 10 and compare with the bottom 10 teams, it's painfully obvious. They haven't had elite QBs (or even great QBs) for most of the decade. There are some exceptions, like Stafford on the Lions, but overall it paints a pretty clear picture. The bottom teams change QBs every couple years because they stink.
I look at it more as the Pats looking at next years schedule and thinking that they might need a bit more from their roster when the opposition is looking a damn sight tougher then last year.
Lots of non-elite quarterbacks have won superbowls. However none of them have won more than one. On the other hand there are lots of elite quarterbacks who never won ANY superbowls. Dan Marino is one of the best to ever lace up. No superbowl wins. Lots of elite quarterbacks have won just one superbowl. Tom Brady is an elite quarterback who has won FIVE superbowls. To do that a team has to have a lot more than just an elite quarterback going for it. That means being a top organization consistently over a period of many years. That started with the Patriots when Robert Kraft became their owner. He started by bringing a top coach and GM - Parcells who immediately brought New England to a Superbowl. When Parcells came to New England he brought Belichick with him. Belichick went back to NE from the Jets for one reason. He knew Kraft and that organization and didn't want the what was and is the Jets. Kraft also firmly established the Patriot's home as Foxboro. Would NE still even have an NFL team if Kraft hadn't put up his own money for a new stadium? I doubt it. Yes NE got luck with Brady. However without the rest of the package Brady doesn't win 5 times. He get one or two rings like most other elites. And NE wouldn't even have an NFL team.
Were you drunk when you typed this, or did you actually matriculate in the Boston public school system?
Yikes for who? I perosnally would love for him to play this long. Look at Peyton and Favre at the end. They were at the same age Brady is where they hit a wall and crumbled. He has alreayd begun declining physically which is why they have switched to a short west coast style passing game (i'm not hating this is good coaching and they do it well) as well as relying on the run more. At most two more years playing at this level, which gives us 5 of him tainting his legacy and Pats fans turning on their glory boy. My guess is he wants to be the GOAT. He plays another 3 to 4 years to top Peyton in every statistical category because like his fanbase he is starving for validation. The real interesting thing will be if in that time he starts to decline rapidly will BB stay true to form and trade him?
What? They've been playing a short pass dink and dunk-get the ball out in 2 second offense for his entire career, and 2016 was his best deep passing season since 2007..
They used to take more shots downfield to keep teams honest. His ability to do so has waivered. And again, i'm not saying he has fallen off yet but it's inevitable. he is at the age where it can hit any moment. I still expect a high level of play for 2 years but 7 is a pipe dream.
