Flacco 10-31 / 163 yards / 0 TD / 1 INT / 37.0 Rating Ray Rice Rushing: 25-66 / 2.6 AVG / 1 TD Receiving 2-64 / 32.0 AVG (long 52) Total offense: 267 Yards / 3 turnovers For the most part, the defense did their job, except the Ray Rice 52 yarder. That said, they are not good enough (unlike the last 2 years) to overcome the mistakes of the offense...Ravens scored 18 points on defense which is the difference in the game. The only positive I took from last night is the defense didn't let Rice go over 100 yards rushing.
The glaring problem is the offensive line. Defense will be fine. Sanchez will be fine. RB talent is fine. All of that means nothing though if the OL play continues to be this terrible. There's no time to throw, no room to run, and drives will continue to end in turnovers or 3 and outs leaving the defense gassed.
This loss magnifies problems even moreso coming off the Oakland loss. If the Jets win the Oakland game, I don't think people are up in arms today. Also, I agree with what other people said, if we can win @ New England (which is going to require the defensive gameplan of a lifetime) a lot of our pain is alleviated.
I was actually somewhat impressed at the defenses resiliance last night. Only allowing 13 points themselves while trying to make up for a complete waste of an offense is actually quite impressive against a squad that contains a weapon like Ray Rice. In games and years past that same defense would have been enough to keep us in the game or possibly even win it. We saw a David Harris interception, a good run stop (minus one long 50+ yarder) against a top tier running back and we saw aaron maybin step up and make some big plays. It was 27-17 when maybin caused a fumble(recovered by jets) and here was our chance to really turn the tide yet our offense comes out and first play sanchez throws a td...... to the ravens. At this point there is only so much more that you can ask from your defense if the offense is going to go three and out, turn it over and not produce ANYTHING. ANY defense in the NFL would eventually break down during the game if they were given the same offense we saw from the jets last night.
I agree, the pick six was the game. I thought right before that, though a long shot, the Jets had a shot to pull it close.
Good call on the thread The equation is simple for this team to get back on track: Mangold = no OL breakdowns = TOP = points = rested defense = maybe a lead for once so they can get after the QB = a fucking win.
With everyone knocking Sanchez, Joe Flacco looked equally terrible, and the guy wasn't behind a disaster of an offensive line.
Our defense is ready for the Patriots. If we can get Mangold back our offense will be ready. We have a really good shot at winning this game. I feel really confident. I had no confidence against Baltimore, but im feeling good this week.
I really liked what I saw from Maybin. He MUST be promoted to DPR and should most definitely be in on all pass situations... He was very fast to the QB despite falling down once or twice. His performance was probably the best passrush this Jets team has seen in a while
....seeing how the rest of the defenses are in the NFL this year, the Ravens have a Super Bowl caliber defense.
Seriously? They gave up 13 points, despite being on the field for 37 minutes! Flacco was 10/31 for 163 yards with no TDs. Rice and Williams combined for 115 yards rushing on 37 carries. 6/18 on 3rd down. 267 total yards. 3 TOs, including a pick 6. Come on now. And yes, the Ravens D was great too.
The defense played pretty well. But the offense is a joke. We have no running game, and our pass plays are so poorly designed. Instead of spreading the field (and stretching it with intermediate to deep throws) like Buffalo and NE on so many plays you see receivers running to the same cheap area a few feet from scrimmage such that they sometimes end up within 5 yards of each other. Even when a receiver miraculously (it seems) makes a catch, it's with one or more defenders draped all over him or ready to decapitate him. I'm sorry, but Tannenbaum is overrated. I'm not blaming Colin Baxter -- he's done as well as can be expected -- but how do you not sign a veteran backup when Rob Turner (then Mangold) goes down? We could have picked up Gurode after the Cowboys cut him. Instead he goes to Baltimore and has a hand in last night's beat-down. One positive is that Mo Wilkerson has looked good.
The defense played as well as they could, I was very proud of them last night. I knew last week was an aberration and that we would bounce back this week, didn't think the offense would stink up the joint for the second year in a row against the Ravens.
