Heard Schefter the other day and this is what he said about similiar situations. Schaub went to Houston for 2 2's, Kolb went to Arizona for a 2 and Rodgers Cromartie, Alex Smith to KC for 2 2's. So history tells you it will cost 2 2's for Cousins if you are interested. '
If We gave up 2 2nd round picks that would mean they expect Cousin's to be the future and Geno is on the outs.
Look at Cousins line this year and his overall body of work in the NFL and ask yourself if he's a guarantee of good play. He threw 2 picks in 9 passes against the Broncos in relief of RGIII. He threw 2 more in the start against the Falcons who have the 25th ranked pass defense. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
Kirk Cousins has only had limited time playing in WAS and never as the starter, so it's still difficult to judge. I would like the Jets to pass on Cousins if this is the price. In limited time, he has a 5.9 INT % on his career. For comparison, with all of Geno's picks this year, he is at 5.5% which is where Sanchez was at after his rookie year. Sanchez on his career 3.7% and if you remove his best year it's still a 4.1%. Maybe Kirk can improve and become better at protecting the ball when throwing, but so far he's worse than Mark was his rookie year and Geno is this year in protecting the ball when throwing.
Let's see how he does in the next few games. The Cowboys game might inflate his stats a little which kinda worries me. But if he doesn't do great then we really shouldn't trade for him. Not that it matters much, just an observation, but Cousins is more than two years older than Geno.
Cousins came out of a pro set also and went into the Redskins WCO. He hasn't had enough playing time yet to get a good read on him because it's rare to be able to pin down a young QB's quality in the first few starts. My point is that this is not a guy you give up multiple high picks for. He's valued at about where he was drafted by the Redskins. A 4th round pick, maybe a 3rd if you really like him.
Kirk Cousins vs the Cleveland Browns on December 16, 2012: http://espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=321216005 26/37 329 Yards 2 TD 1 INT I am a huge Cousins fan, I always felt that Shanahan drafted him because he was the QB he wanted. At the same time the Redskins drafted him in the 4th round so if they are able to convert him to a 2nd round pick it would be absolute steal for them. It is interesting though, would we rather draft another QB in the 2nd round or trade for Cousins? Cousins to me, has what it takes. The issue will come when he tries to operate in this pathetic offense.
Anyone who thinks Idzik is giving up on his newly acquired rookie QB after just one semester hasn't been watching football for very long.
If everybody realized that, we could shut down this board. 90% of the posts are about Smith (who will be back abd will likely start next season) and Sanchez ( who will be cut by March). The other 51 players don't mean squat to most Jets fans.
He isn't and he shouldnt imo. Go draft Sammy Watkins in the 1st round, build around the guy and then judge him. You CANNOT evaluate a QB in this offense, I said it last offseason and im saying it again.
Geno needs to prove himself against legit competition, or be replaced by that competition. In other words, we need a contingency plan, which we haven't had these last 2 years. I'd be interested if the cost was a 2nd rounder, but 2 2's is a bit too steep for an unknown imo..
Last 3 years right? Brunell was our "backup" in 2011. I agree though, we need Geno and some other viable QB and Simms.
In case you have noticed Geno has the same defect that Marc has which is making right decisions when under pressure so he to is not our SB winning QB of the future. JMHO
I'd do it. He's had success, albeit minimal sample size, at the pro level. I'd dish two seconds for him. I don't care what happened in college, only the NFL level. He's already looked more competent than Geno or Taco. He's also in a WCO variant right now.
