Is a prosperous China a good thing for America?

Is it a good thing for the rest of the world?

Why won't they play nice with others?

The Soviet Union failed because they couldn't keep toilet paper on the shelves. Regimes fall, Rome fell, the US will fall and China's Communist Party will fall. Bad regimes fall. The British Empire is now an Island.

So we should do nothing and wait for them to fall?

We should continue to be the leader of the world, support good institutions, build alliances and create more wealth. Support human dignity, justice and be a clear voice.

Shrinking to an Island nation will make us irrelevant and will concede world hegemony to China.

So you consider the United States to be a "bad regime"...?

Our Constitution failed miserably which is why we had a terrible civil war. We amended the Constitution and Jim Crow evolved to undermine it almost immediately. We started to fix it incrementally through the courts and legislation. We have an extremely powerful federal system now that's governed by the tyranny of the minority. A vast majority of the country is under represented in all 3 branches of the elected government and that has now carried over to the Court system.

Yes I think we are going down hill fast. We have minority rule, the Patriot Act is still in effect and Presidential power is going unchecked. Our democratic Republic is failing.

Every great power goes down. We aren't immune.

I tend to agree with most of what you said.

Which is why I hate to see people use the freedoms that were bestowed upon us to divide the country.

Identity politics, race baiting, gender politics, hate speech...it's all a waste of time and hinders us from improving as a nation.

All petty bullshit that diverts attention from the real issues.

We can do all that and be less reliant on Chinese goods. And if we can’t, Americans come first. Right now they should be made to pick up some of the tab for their part in this getting out of control.

I'm not quite sure why you think doing some more of your own manufacturing in your own country concedes your status as a world power and reduces you to being an island nation.

You can't lead the world if you can't even lead your own people and make sure that they're living their best possible lives. That should be our focus because we focus on the world.

Before the pandemic we were at full employment and restricting immigration. So if we want to have lower GDP be a poorer country and make low value goods here it's okay with me. I prefer TPP which expands opportunity and forces China to comply with the standards we set for global trade. Higher cost goods and lower wages seems like a really dumb idea but have at it.

Quality of products from China have gotten increasingly worse over the past decade. The only thing that they still reign supreme with is technology. Have you ordered some of the bullshit Amazon sells that is made in China? It's awful.

I'm an avid collector of retro Jordan's. The quality of the same model shoe, made 6 years apart, is world's different in terms of quality. There's a reason few real collectors buy the garbage they make now, and while Jordan's used to sell out in 12 hours after the release, they're now discounted two months later to get rid of inventory. There are a lot of verticals like this.

Maybe a Roku SHOULD be $120.00 if it provides 2,500 US jobs.

If you're buying Air Jordan's made in China they're fakes. They're made in Vietnam.

That's not true. Ironic that you think you know that, being that it was a Clinton-era policy to push manufacturing to Vietnam.

Some are made in Vietnam. They also have two plants in China. And various parts can be made in various places (I.E. insoles are sometimes made in China).
