@TheJetsStream Manish Mehta #Jets made offers to key free agents like Holmes & Cromartie as expected throughout the day. But there will be back & forth in negotiations
Yeah, but who's to say teams such as the Steelers, Colts and Patriots aren't getting weaker during the offseason while the Jets are either getting back to full strength or even better before our offseason is over and done with? This deal COULD bring the Jets over the top; especially if we sign Holmes for cheaper than expected, which would then give us the ability to bring back Edwards.
I've thought that Cromartie was gone 100% this entire offseason. Yes, Aso would be a dream scenario, but Cromartie has to rank as a top 10 CB. Signing Cromartie would be huge for our defense and I'm pretty sure Rex Ryan would agree. Hopefully Kyle Wilson breaks out into a Ray Mickens type of nickel back for us and both Wilson and Lowery can combine for a strong Nickel-Dime package. Either way, bringing back Cromartie improves our entire secondary because I don't think we've seen the best of Cromartie yet. Last year was his first year under a Rex Ryan defense... I'm ready to see some more.
Cotchery is not done in 2 years, he has many years left at his current level. He is only 29, and players that don't rely on their athleticism and instead rely on fundamentals are the ones who age well in sports. Cotchery has many productive years left. He's also saying he's the healthiest he's been in over 2 years after his back surgery.
That's how I feel. Holmes is clearly a better route runner, Braylon has always been a shoddy route runner. But Braylon has always had the ability to make great plays. He and Holmes put up similar numbers last year, with Braylon making a bunch of big plays, just like Holmes, on less targets I'm pretty sure. And he's a better blocker.
The thing is, perception, and the perception is Holmes is a cunt and Braylon embraced the Jets, especially after the DWI. It seems like Edwards was more willing to be a Jet than Holmes, aside from who is a better player, that makes a huge difference. Edit: Now is it really that way? I don't know, that is the perception.
You're right. With the fanbase that's exactly what it is. One seemed to immerse himself in the culture of this franchise than the other, thus the fans want the player who identified with them. But good business says go get Holmes the fuck back on this team. Braylon is still a very talented WR, but if I'm going to pick one - its Holmes.
Well let's not act like Edwards is this scrub WR who the fans love but is so deficient of talent that he isn't worth bringing back. He has everything you look for in a WR..if he keeps his head straight and stays out of trouble he can be a 1000 yd 10 TD guy for years.
It's true, but at the same time, you have Braylon who openly talked about how much he loved the Jets and playing in New York. That's a great way to earn favor. But it wouldn't matter if he was dropping passes all the time and not making plays. He played well last year. He caught passes, made plays, broke tackles, and blocked well, and he obviously has physical gifts like ace posted above me. After last season ended, I felt he had a better year than Holmes. Does that mean he will be better the next four years and is better for our future? I don't know. Even Cromartie threw Braylon under the bus a little in praising Santonio working hard.
Holmes created the flyboys concept. How do people say he didn't embrace the concept of the team? Unless I'm missing something and you're claiming that Edwards didn't embrace the team.
whats many years? 3 or 4? yes, at his current level. i love him to death but when you enter the league as a possession reciever and are staring 30 in the face coming off back surgery I find it hard to believe your the "healthiest youve been" and when I said hes got 2 years left, I meant as being a dominant number 2. i didnt mean before hes fighting for a roster spot. and this is all coming from someone who watched his career at NCState. was ecstatic when we drafted him assuming he was going to start instantly and screamed furiously about Edwards never letting him prove himself. im just saying i originally made the remark because i think the poster made it sound like cotchery is a long term option at WR.
They are both flaky guys. It is really difficult for me to say I want one over the other. I like Holmes big play ability but I think Braylon stepped up and played better all around. I wouldn't put much credence in Cro backing up Holmes, he has a similar way about him. Especially, with saying nonsense over twitter when it is painfully obvious to everyone, he should have just STFU. I agree with you, I don't know who the better option is for a 4 year contract. It is a tough call. I will agree with someone saying, "Sign Edwards", with their reason being their perception or the Holmes argument. It really is a tough call.
I like Cotchery but I agree his body type, injury history and style do not lend itself for a more lengthy career.
This is as shitty a place to put this as any other: FootballPost NationalFootballPost Report: Plaxico Burress could return to Giants: WR could make amends for letting club down http://bit.ly/qK24GI #NFL
I was saying that in the perception of most fans, Braylon is they player the identify more with. I should have named them instead of saying "one than the other" - that's vague and confusing. My bad. He hasn't insinuated anything about wanting money, and has been quiet and hard working. That's the players this fanbase loves. I agree with you. Holmes also created the "airplane" move that the entire team adopted (as well as myself. I do it when no one is home). But when the poll was made during the lockout, the vast majority wanted Braylon back.
It is shocking to me that Coughlin is even said to be entertaining the idea. That was news to me. Take it as you will.
lol when i read the phrase "letting the club down" i instantly pictured his gun going off at that night club
I'm not mocking you, just these rapid fire remarks about stuff that may happen but in reality will probably not. I have yet to see anything anywhere about burress returning to the Giants.
