Hey, After reading the SI link in the thread about Bakers disgusting behavior, I must say, I'm intrigued by the the thought of a Baker-Shockey trade. Personally, I think it makes great sense. Both teams get rid of their disgruntled TE's, and the Jets get a huge weapon that can help mentor and guide their future weapon at the position, which is Keller. I have a poll set up and would love as much feedback as possible since i find this the best place to get educated Jets opinions and thoughts (for the most part).
Yes...it's a great move for the Jets and it solves our problem and theres but the one thing that is off here is how good Shockey is compared to Baker. I don't think the Giants would ever do that as they wouldn't get fair value in return. Being a Jets fan I like it, but as a football fan I don't think it's a fair trade that'll happen
1. We can't be sending the message that the squeaky wheel gets the grease in Baker's situation...so no trade for him. 2. We don't want the prima-donna whose team got hot and went on to win the Super Bowl as soon as he went on the DL. No, no, no.
a later round pick wouldnt be a bad deal. shockey is a pro bowl tight end. baker could be one if he adjusted his attitude, but since he is a poison to the jets as far as team chemistry goes, why not get a superior tight end?
Hmm, no... If he gets traded to the Jets, he'll just bitch for more money. I am sure what Baker is asking for is plenty less than what Shockey would demand.
Not only that, but he'd come at a much higher price tag than we're already paying Baker. If we wanted a higher-priced TE, we'd just pay off Baker so he'd shut up.
plus we spent a 1st round pick on a receiving TE in this year's draft...it makes no sense to trade for Shockey...Tannenbaum would have to get his head checked if he pulled a bonehead move like that.
We don't need Shockey. He is expensive for someone who may or may not play a role in our offense. We're better off trading for a draft pick.
There's no way in hell that Shockey would come to our team anyway. 1) He wants to get away from the NY Media - he blames them for his bad rep. 2) He wants to be the #1 TE, the #1 receiving threat, the #1 option to throw to, & the last TE to have a blocking assigment. 3) He would never NEVER EVER assist in the development of a young player at his own position.
I think Shockey's bad attitude when Manning first came on was just due to the fact that Manning sucked. When healthy, he is a top 3 TE in this league, and considering what Shotty was able to do with Gates in his offense, it is an interesting idea. Keller is really a WR at the NFL level. He's strong enough to play TE, but his speed and size, as well as his strength would make him a major headache for opposing DB's. Going 4 wide with Coles, Cotch, Shockey and Keller would give defensive coordinators fits.
No thanks, I would rather it be a draft pick then another TE. If we get rid of Shockey I am guessing the TEs would be Darcy Johnson, Kevin Boss, and Mathews for us. I wouldn't mind that TE corps.
That be the stupidest thing ever from the Giants point of view. It's a massive tradedown in terms of talent, from Shockey to Baker. They're not even comparable.
Yeah, we would have to throw in probably a 3rd. Then we have the same problem with a more talented player.
Actually can we just scratch the word "possibility" from this thread's title. Nothing in this scenario makes any sense, in any way, at all.
Fuck that. Shockey is an injury waiting to happen and a cancer plain and simple. Baker can just rot on the bench if he wants to play hardball. I never did like baker either. I have always said on this board that he is the most overrated New York Jet among the fans.
Newsflash, We would have to give the Giants Baker and our number one pick for this to happen. Plus The giants would prob move boss to their number one T/E and they would not pay Baker either. Baker has more value with the Jets than most other NFL teams.
