During the 2018 draft, I was ecstatic because I thought we drafted the BEST overall QB prospect to come out in some time. Baker had too many distractions and was limited athletically, Jackson "couldn't throw", Allen was not accurate" and Rosen was fragile. I still think that could be the case, but I don't think the current coaching staff/roster will ever allow allow us to make a fair judgement on this. With that said, this draft class did teach us a valuable lesson:

Great leadership and roster building are integral with determining the ultimate development of any of these prospects. And their current ranking has all to do with it:

Lamar Jackson: BEST Head Coach and Oline
Josh Allen: BEST rebuilt Oline and supporting defense
Mayfield: Talented, but has suffered this year because HC and Oline
Darnold: His talent and potential keeps him here
Rosen: played under worst coaching and Oline

As you can see, the Oline and HC will always determine the QB potential and can even make up for shortcomings of the QB. I would love to see Darnold on the Ravens--maybe he would be special.

The bigger lesson comes from the 2017 Draft Class. That's the one that Macc decided to pass on taking one of two GREAT QBs because he thought having a Safety was more important. The lesson? When you need a FQB and a potential one is sitting there, you toss your draft chart in the dumpster and take the QB!

Yeah, I know, Mahomes would never produce like he has under Reid, but even a lesser version of him would've been a massive improvement, and we would've had all those draft picks Macc had to trade to move up in 2018.

But the Johnsons are incapable of learning lessons because they're football morons.

Speaking of the 2018 draft, I was baffled when Shepherd was selected in round 3. How many DL do we need when we have deficiencies at OL, skill positions, Edge, and CB??!!! Orlando Brown was who I wanted.

Jets would have ruined Mahomes - he would not have developed into anything near what he is on KC with that roster and Reid.

In all likelihood we are probably going to ruin Sam.

The Jets made two huge errors last year. First, they kept Bowles because they were impressed that he won 5 games instead of 0. They could have made a play for someone like Frank Reich. Had that happened, there's a chance that maybe they could have taken Mahomes and he'd give us what he's giving the Chiefs.

Trade him for a 4th or 5th at this point

  8. Not only was the ignoring glaring needs part bad enough Sheppard also was already 25 coming from a small school & MAC pretty much admitted they took him based on his combine & shrine game performance.

Knew it was a god awful pick the second they made it.Mac trying to one up Idzik’s Dexter Mcdougle pick

Even we wouldn’t have fucked up Mahomes. He is otherworldly.

The fact that we are only middle of the pack when it comes to cap space next year is scary! We have a lack of depth and talent, with little cap space or draft capital. This is thanks to boneheaded contracts like Trumaine Johnson and Quincy Enunwa and stupid trades to bring in aging expensive players like KO. We need to make some trades to rid ourselves of this dead weight if we can, even if it means taking later picks. Trust Douglas to make some good picks

I'd put Mason Rudolph over Josh Rosen at this point. Maybe Kyle Allen too.

Perhaps we would have built our offensive line up if we didn't give the Colts three second round picks to move up three lousy spots in the draft.

The Colts lost Luck and seem to be doing just fine without him.

Let’s not forget no one gave Frank Reich a chance. He only got the job because mcdaniels bailed last minute and stayed in ME. Reich was going to be a coach on the eagles again before he got the colts job last minutes.

one piece of good news - we have a GM that started filling holes that Macagnan didn't even know existed. With a full offseason, I'm confident he'll deal with our holes and move us in the right direction.

We've suffered through Idzik and Macagnan's poor personnel decisions. It will take time, but there's a brain behind this operation now.

He carried a talent deprived Texas Tech. He didn’t need to go to USC or Oklahoma to be considered good. Jets couldn’t ruin that man; no one could. That’s just what you say to yourself to sleep better at night.
