    NOT.

For all those who think he wouldn't have made a huge impact on this team and wasn't worth the asking price ...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4lXA8bwXZI

He will be remembered as the one that got away.

(yes, yes ... I know it's preseason and it's one play in one game but many thought his speed wouldn't translate in the NFL but he still looks like a grown man playing with a bunch of 10 year olds.)

    Also ...

Notice the way he finishes that run ... no out of bounds ala Walter Payton.

Payton finished runs. Franco Harris was the guy who would run out of bounds.

What would you have proposed trading? Two first round picks? Maybe one of those Ditka-type trades?

Don't make me dial your phone number there.

I meant that he stayed in bounds getting those tough extra yards like Payton. Also, we had a real chance of trading those two picks for this guy. Now let all the "he can't run with nobody blocking for him" rants begin.

This post wasn't meant to be negative and I am rootin' for Brick and Mangold to be perennial all-pro players, but myself as well as many other posters felt we should have taken the shot at this guy and many felt he was overrated.

As the season progresses I'll keep everyone posted.

I see what you mean now. I read your above post wrong.

The Texans are the team that screwed up.
The Jets couldn't trade up for Bush because the Saints really, really wanted him.

Oh boy. This is going to be a long year, SJ. Each time Bush,Young or Leinart does something extra "special" we're going to hear about in, I would guess, 10 or more threads per week suggesting the same thing.

Drafting Reggie Bush would have been like buying cotton candy at the fair. It would've tasted really good for about 5 minutes and then we'd have been looking for the next sweet thing when it was gone.

    Did we really try?

Do we know what they wanted for that Pick? Tanny will have to look himself in the mirror about this one since he was the point man. Damage Control: a vague statment like " they were asking too much" ... we'll never know what too much was. Like many other Bush fans, I would have given up alot since we are in rebuilding mode anyway.

Seems like C-Mart might have hinted about the Jets getting a new feature back in the draft, they were warned.

They had McAllister miss 11 games last year because of a torn ACL and a hurricane almost wiped out the city. They were not going to trade the pick unless someone made an Ollie Matson/Herschel Walker/Ricky Williams-like crazy offer.

By selecting Bush, it helps the team and the community. Bush has really energized the fan base.
It is great for the league that Bush is in New Orleans. The Jets can get a stud running back next April. There a couple worthwhile ones.
    Just stay calm.

    Cotton candy.

Dude watch the run again. Tell me the last time you've seen a Jets running back break a run like that. You've got to be freaking kidding me. He's been making plays like that for years a USC and now he'll do it in the NFL for a team other than the Jets.

I've got your cotton candy right here.

You're not gonna see me talking about Young or Leinart. We made the right move passing on both and looking for the sleeper in Clemens. They both had some big questions. Bush was/is a surefire NFL superstar barring injury.

    Take the Cakes

There is no way you are a Jets fan. Not because you didn't want Reggie Bush, but the fact that you care that he "energized the city". To know the torment that is a true Jets fan you want to see all others cities de-energized including the half of NY that roots for the Giants. You probably also applauded when Tampa got Sapp and Miami got Marino. I hope everyone is energized, YEAH!

Tell me a back that ran that well in there rookie year?

He wasnt the one that got away because we were never going to sell the family silver to get him , but I understand your sentiments.
I don't think we will see his like for a long time.
Before the draft anylists were saying best rb in 10 years , we will see , but it looks like he is going to be a huge star , and like Cakes said I'm glad that he landed in NO , they need something to smile about and now they have it.

Sorry if I have more empathy for a U.S. city than a football team.

If the Jets had the 2nd pick and passed on Bush I would have been really upset. But again, the Saints would have been nuts to pass on him. We have to get it out of our heads that the Jets made some amazing error by "passing" on Bush.

    Exactly. Noob posters I guess....
    hopefully they get it soon.

If we lose to the Colts but Chad doesn't get sacked by Freeney all game, all we'll hear is "if we had Bush we'd have gained more yards..."

We all would have liked to have gotten him but this isn't Madden football. You can't just decide you want a guy and devise an easy way to get him, so let's move on. Bush isn't gonna be a Wayne Gretzky or Tiger Woods anyways.

The risk wasn't worth the reward. They were expecting an Eli Manning type trade and to tell you the truth the Jets had way too many holes. And please don't base this off one preseason run. There are a number of question marks to Bush's game. Can he run up the middle? Can he take the beating of a NFL season? He's going to create highlights but if hes the kind of back that is going to take you to the Super Bowl is still TBA ala Micheal Vick. One step at a time: this draft we got a Franchinse QB and our O-Line is going to be the foundation of the team for the next 10-15 years. It is a little hard to demand a franchise qb, a franchise rb, a franchise LT, and a franchise C, and solutions at OLB and DT all in one draft. We have 3 picks in the first two rounds next year. If we get a LB, RB, and maybe a NT (depending on DRob's knee, I wouldn't write him off just yet) we are well on our way into the right direction. All the solutions at RB in the trade market aren't longterm solutions. If we make a trade we need to make sure we aren't giving up too much because like it or not our future isn't going to be this year or even next but I am sure excited. :)

(I would love a Brian Leonard as a 2nd/3rd round pick).

*cue the Green Machine comment about numbers*

If the trade was feasible, I would've done it. But no use crying about it now.

Just remember that he had 5 other carries for 15 yards, looking bad in between the tackles.

Just another STUPID Reggie Bush thread. What a waste of brain cells this subject is.

We offered the Saints both 1st rounders and a 4th, what more should we gave given up? Seriously, what good would have Reggie Bush done considereing were pretty much starting from scratch. Its not like he single handedly wouldve propelled us into the playoffs. Sorry, im not willing to trade the farm for an entertaining running back. Would anyone be salivating over him if he was a downhill power runner?
