How about this for a thread? There is about one week until the draft. Everyone post their projections for the New York Jets and the draft and we can see who we like the best and who is the closest or something. There are a lot of mocks floating aroudn the forum and I am interested in what you all think, but it is tough to track them down and sort through them all.
Rambo13's Mock Draft 004 - D'Brickashaw Ferguson - OT - Virginia 029 - Laurence Maroney - RB - Minnesota 035 - Manny Lawson - OLB - North Carolina State 071 - Rodrique Wright - DT - Texas 097 - Greg Eslinger - OC - Minnesota 103 - Kellen Clemens - QB - Oregon 117 - Julian Jenkins - DE - Stanford 138 - Paul McQuistan - OT - Weber State 211 - Rob Smith - OG - Tennesee Here's my reasoning: I think Mario is going to the Saints so I think we have to take Brick. By taking an O-lineman that high, I think we need to skip out on Mangold because that would be overkill. I think Maroney has a good chance of being there and he could be our replacement for Martin next year. If not I could see us going with Mangold or takng Lawson here just to assure that we get him. If we take Lawson here then I would invest a third or fourth on a WR because I think we have to find a playmaker on offense but we don't necessarily have to draft a RB and a WR. I think one or the other will be fine. I may be a little lenient on thinking Lawson will be there at #35, but if he is not, then I think we can still pick up Thomas Howard and be in a good position. Rodrique Wright has the potential to beef up and play the nose but can also slide over to end in the 3-4. He has experience at all the position on the DL at Texas. Eslinger would solve our Center needs and can be as good as Mangold. Julian Jenkins is an oversized DE who could thrive in the 3-4 and take over for Kimo in a year or two. May be better than taking Mario because the 3-4 DE is kinda devalued (aside from Seymour). Jets seem to love Kellen Clemens and I think we ought to draft at least one QB and he does have a good arm. Had good stats at Oregon during his whole career and especially right before he got injured. We have Adrian Jones and Marko Cavka at Tackle returning and Teague and Clements can also play, but I think it would be wise to get two young guys to develop. McQuistan is a good sleeper who can develop into a start in time. I decided to pick a second Tackle before picking a Guard because I think Kendall and Moore are going to be solid, plus we have some decent depth with Morley. Rob Smith was real good at Tennessee but I don't expect any Guard we pick to have a significant playing time. Had to drop out Chiijoke Onyenegecha because apparently we only have one 7th rounder.
I would be very happy with that draft, but McQuistan won't be there at 138 and I don't see Clemens lasting that long either.
You are probably right about Clemens but I disagree about McQuistan. A number of sources have him lasting longer than that pick including ESPN and theHuddleReport. The beauty of that pick is it is a luxury pick because of picking Brick earlier. If we miss him no big deal we still have Jones, Clement, Cavka and Brick. We can take best available player. Anyways I swapped Jenkins and Clemens because I think I overvalued Jenkins and undervalued Clemens. Clemens might still be gone there and if so maybe Whitehurst or Jacobs will be there.
I'll just put what i'd like to see, because I really have given up trying to figure out what the Jets are actually thinking after all these years. 1-4: DE Mario Williams, NC State 1-29: RB Laurence Maroney, Minnesota 2-35: OT Marcus McNeill, Auburn 3-71:QB Brodie Croyle, Alabama 3-97: WR Martin Nance, Miami Oh 4-103: C Mike Degory, Florida 4-117: DE/OLB Parys Haralson, Tennessee 5-138T Anthony Montgomery, Minnesota 7-211: DB Eric Bassey, Oklahoma Mario's obvious. Versatile so he could play in both the 43 and 34, potential to be the best end in the league. If Maroney's on the board, he should be the pick without question. Great speed, smart runner, and most importantly, explosive, he'll be the perfect addition to our RB corps. Plus, he never fumbles, ever. Even with the signing of Clement, I'm not at all confident in our RT situation. McNeill may have his issues (largely with speed rushers), but they'll be neutralized with him at RT. I'd put my money on him beaeting Clement out with ease to start in '06. Had to get Croyle here, though I'd say that it's an "optimistic" look at where he might get drafted. He needs time to bulk up a little and learn our system, which will give us time to see what we have in Chad and Ramsey, but he'll start in '07 if all goes well. The Nance pick was more luxury than anything else. I think there will be a few talented WR's available here, so it was basically picking Size or Speed. I went with Nance because the offense has needed a big, possession guy for some time, and he's got a lot of potential if he stays healthy. I felt comfortable waiting this long on a Center with the Teague signing, because I feel, unlike Clement, he can be at least an effective starter for a season. Also, if Katnick does come out and have a solid camp, I wouldn't want to have wasted a higher pick. Degory was really in a bad situation in Meyer's offense, he's a much better prospect than he's getting credit for. Haralson is a prototype 34 OLB, and should be a quality developmental option. He can move very well both in pursuit and out in the open, so he's a natural fit. Can also put his hand down when we need him in a 43, though he's undersized for it. Montgomery is a guy that I've heard a ton of good things about as far as his future as an NT goes, and I believe it. He has great size and is physically, but he's a bit raw in the mental aspects. That kind of made consistency a question, but with coaching he'll be a terrific player. I'll go with the other promising, yet underachieving DB from Oklahoma. I always liked Bassey, but there seems to be something in the way of him becoming the player he should have his entire career. Tried at safety and corner, he can physically play either, but is more suited as a corner in the NFL.

I like Green Hurrican's alot, but with a few changes... 1-4: DE Mario Williams 1-29: RB Laurence Maroney 2-35: OT Marcus McNeill / Eric Winston 3-71:QB Charlie Whitehurst 3-97: DT Babatunde Oshinowo With a day one like that we can go BPA on day two.
1-4: Mario Williams DE NC State -Sort of obvious... plays 3-4/4-3 DE. 1-29: Davin Joseph OG Oklahoma -Easily best Guard available. 2-35: Marcus McNeil OT Auburn -Anthony Clement won't last for too long at RT. Texans should take Eric Winston before McNeil. 3-71: Kellen Clemmons QB Oregon -We need another young QB to develop. 3-97: Parys Haralson OLB/DE Tennessee -Great pass rusher for 3-4 scheme. 4-103: Babatunde Oshinowo DT -Good 3-4 NT. 4-117: Mike Degory C -Hopefully can start sooner than later 5-138: Hank Baskett WR New Mexico -Will he be around this late? It's very possible... 7-211: Pierre Woods OLB/DE Michigan -Can rush the passer well... Too much like Haralson?... We need pass rushing OLB bad however. The run stopping OLBs are here...
Mangold could easily be the pick as well and Guard can be adressed on Day 2 where I have us picking a Center. I like Davin Joseph a lot though, so we select him instead of Mangold, but it can go either way. I feel the best thing to do in our first draft is to build a strong young Offensive Line. Also, look for a trade down somewhere come Saturday... Hopefully...
4'Brickashaw Ferguson( Assuming Mario goes to the saints) Will start at LT, Jones at RT 29:Manny lawson Will be very good at pass rushing as OLB in 3-4 35:Addai The most complete back in the draft 71:Brodie Croyle Has good arm strength and accuracy, only negative is his injuries 97:Greg Eslinger Will be backup to teague hopefully able to start by next year 103:Babatunde Oshi-whatever Is good as 3-4 nose 117:Ben obomanu Great athete 138arrell Hunter will be 5th CB 211:Will Allen Think he will slip to 7th.
