Texans sign free-agent guard Loverne to deal

The Texans signed guard David Loverne to a contract Friday.

Loverne will join the team in hopes of rebounding from an injury that sidelined him for the 2005 season. He was placed on injured reserve Oct. 13, 2005, because of a torn biceps.

The 6-3, 299-pound guard has played in 63 career games and started 24. He spent three seasons with the New York Jets after being drafted in the third round of the 1999 draft. He also played for Washington (2002), St. Louis (2003) and Detroit (2004-05).

Loverne, 29, is the 10th free agent to sign with the Texans this season. The others include fullback Jameel Cook, middle linebacker Sam Cowart, center Mike Flanagan, defensive end N.D. Kalu, linebacker Zeke Moreno, tight end Jeb Putzier, quarterback Sage Rosenfels, wide receiver Kevin Walter and defensive end Anthony Weaver.
