Who and when (what round) would you like to see in green and white?

Dion Sims- is the guy I want if we can get him in the 4th or 5th. Some charter and injury concerns but great value in the 4th or 5th.

Sims was the No. 5-rated tight end prospect in the country by Scouts, Inc. and Rivals.com coming out of Detroit's Orchard Lake St. Mary's high school.
He appeared on his way to an outstanding college career with 11 receptions for 133 yards as a freshman, being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team by The Sporting News and Rivals.com.

However, Sims' path to stardom hit a major speed bump when he pleaded guilty to a felony receiving and concealing stolen property charge. He sat out the 2010 season, although he did have the charge expunged under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act.

Sims returned to the Spartans in 2011, but was limited to just 12 catches as he played through a broken wrist. He didn't have a single reception over the Spartans' final seven games.

"A lot of adversity, a lot of setbacks," Sims said during fall practice in August, 2012. "But I think it's time to just forget about everything that's made me stronger and just come out ready to go."

The coaching staff lauded Sims' work over the 2012 offseason, including reducing his body fat from 18 percent down to around 12-13 and improving his focus and technique on the field.

Sims went on to catch a team-high 24 passes through the first five games of his junior season. Unfortunately, he would suffer an ankle injury that sidelined Sims for almost three full games. He still finished with 36 catches for 475 yards and two touchdowns.

"Despite missing nearly three full games, Dion Sims still earned second-team All-Big Ten honors, so that says something about his production," Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio said. "He's a big target with great hands. With his combination of size and power, Dion is difficult to bring down, so gains a lot of yards after the catch. He's also a much improved run-blocker."

At 6-5 and 285 pounds, Sims looks almost more like an offensive lineman, but he moves like a tight end with the foot quickness and body control to be an effective pass-catcher. He finished 2012 with just 36 catches, but he was left home at the line of scrimmage to block a lot in the Spartans' offense, and the ankle injury and inconsistent quarterback play didn't help.

I'd really like to see the Jets add a guy to pair with Jeff Cumberland somewhere on day two or earlier on day three.

I think Gavin Escobar or Vance McDonald would be there in the 3rd round.

Going in a different direction, Jordan Reed seems like more of an H-back/TE type sort of like Aaron Hernandez or Dustin Keller. He'd add something to the offense.

I guess it depends on what sort of TE they're looking for... How do people feel Jeff Cumberland is as a blocker?

I really like McDonald as well, he may be a little to rich for our blood (2-3 round projection). Cumby is not a good blocker. We need an upgrade here and Sims is in the Gates, Finley mold.

It's a hell of a good draft for TEs... I hope someone overpays for Keller so we can start over at the postion. If you ask me give me Gavin Escobar, we need a safety net like that on the team!

Yeah i agree. It's a good year to upgrade at TE, and the draft is set up well for it.
I'd like to see Ertz or Eifert in the 2nd, or Escobar in the 3rd.
Jets should also consider a late round blocking TE like Michael Williams from Alabama. The run blocking and pass protection out of our TE corp this year was terrible.

Same here! Ertz/Eifert in rd 2 or Escobar/McDonald in rd 3 and I'm a happy man.

With all the holes we have at guard, LB, and the safety's, I want a lot of value (not saying Eifert, McDonald wouldnt provide that in the 3rd) at TE. Thats why I love Sims, he should still be there in the 4th or even the 5th! Getting pumped!

Does anybody think Cumberland is an acceptable receiving option? He caught 54.7% of the passes Sanchez sent his way last year and he wasn't used in a way that created a lot of tough throws to catch.

I'm just not sure he's worth much moving forward. Keller caught 77.8% of the passes sent his way in similar situations.

Cumberland really had an opportunity this year, and didn't sieze it at all.

Main thing that jumped out to me was his poor blocking. Didn't offer much in run support. But even worse, he routinely missed blitz pickups and was very poor on special teams. His receiving ability has some potential, but didn't impress much as you pointed out, with the big opportunity he had this year.
He's worth keeping as a cheap depth guy, but that's about it at this point.

Keller would probably be a very good receiver in the WCO, but i consider him a 1 dimensional TE and not worth a big contract (which he'll probably get).

Add that up, and i believe the Jets needs to be serious TE buyers in this years draft.

I would love to see something like Eifert in the 2nd or Escobar in the 3rd and Jordan Reed in the 4th. Try and build a poor man's Gronk and Hernandez... Im not sure how much of two TE sets MM uses in his WCO though.

Vance McDonald scares me a little bit with his hands... A lot of double catches and drops show up on tape. He's most definitely not a natural hands catcher.

Travis Kelce is an absolute beast. He's the most complete TE in the draft. He can do everything and line up anywhere. I wouldn't hesitate taking him in the 3rd.

Vance McDonald also long snaps so he would fill 2 roles, as the scouts say "the more you can do".

Eifert or Kelce in the second. Sims or Reed in the third.

If 2nd round is TE then it has to be Eifert or Ertz. All other TE Jets are round 3 or later.

I think Eifert's performance at the Combine has landed him in Rd 1.

Jake Stoneburner is going to be a good TE you can get in Rd 5.
