I feel if the jets beat the Titans that are record will be .500 for the season and if we lose we will only win 5 games. Just my opinion
It will be a nice start but not a predictor of the season, we've startd well('94, '00, etc..) and finished poorly and we've started poorly('81, '98, '02) and finished strong. it's just 1 game but it will be nice to get and w/ the way our sched shapes up early we might need it to have any chance to even stay in contention by midseason.
I just want to be able to say the Jets have an undefeated record after the first week of the season because it's probably not gonna be pretty from there.
Got that Right...and neither does the first 2 or 3. I still remember our 1-4/2-5 start. I was at 2 of the away games that year. Brutal!!! But we still won the division.
Yeah it would be hard to tell how the season is going to be just by one game. Unless were getting blown off the line like the KC game last season, then I would worry about the rest of the year. But I truely beleive that Mangini will have this team in shape and ready to play. How WELL will be seen on the field.
I agree with this - it wasn't just the fact that the Jets lost to KC last year, it was the way they lost, and the way certain key players looked, that was the problem. That said, with only a 16 game season, one game can make a noticeable difference. If you figure 6 wins as expected, a swing of a game or two overall (even if it's just luck) is the difference between a 5 win season and a .500 record.
The way we lost to KC was bad but that's no why we went 4-12. Remember we did bounce back and beat Miami fairly easily the next week and even w/ Chad and Jay going down if Chrebet holds on to that TD catch then we are 2-1 but after that game we had no QBs and the injuries began to mount which had alot more to do w/ 4-12 than the brutal KC loss.
I can't agree at all. One game is not important. What Jets fans should be looking for is progress made during the season. The team will not come out of the gate strong as there are too many new faces and coaches still learning to work with each other with entirely new gameplans. If the Jets start well and finish poorly, it's a sign that Mangini will have to go back to the drawing board and rethink his plan for making the Jets competitive. However, if the Jets FINISH strong no matter how they start out, Mangini's on the right track and Jets fans can look forward to Mangini picking up some of the skill players needed to get the offense to fire on all cylinders as well as a nose tackle and 3/4 OLB for the D with another draft and free agency season. THEN in 2007 you may see a dramatically different looking team that's truly competitive.
Last years first game was every indication of the way we were headed.Alot can be told in the opener from both sides of the ball. The entire 2006 line up is way different than last years.Only time will tell....................................
Again, our finish had little to do w/ the opener. Read my 2nd post on this thread. The opener is just 1 game, you cannot predict a season based on it.
The first game will tell you nothing about this team, other than the fact that it will take the team additional time to gel in certain areas. Win or lose, it's no prediction.
Correct. Alot of people forget the 2000 season when we started the year 4-0 and missed the playoffs. Starting 1-0 means NOTHING
Of our 11 playoff seasons 6 times we won the 1st game and 5 times we lost and 2 of the years we won our opener('91, '02) we lost the next 3 to start 1-3 in '91 and lost the next 4 to start 1-4 in '02.
I think if we win against the titans, the Pats, the Bills, and the colts. then we would be able to tell are season.
This is a young team transitioning into a new regime w/ a very young head coach. The first game will most likely indicate nothing of how the rest of the season goes. Expect growing pains but progress asthe season wears on.
