Bourbon is way better than scotch in my opinion. I drink Jim Beam because I'm a cheap man and it tastes great. Stinky has the right idea though, Bulleit is the best

Bulleit and Makers Mark are good choices, Brook. If you're really trying to be health conscious though, go with gin.

I buy Bulleit when it's on sale..... ;)

Got a bottle for $25 a few weeks ago.... and drink beer 90% of the time, so it lasts

Never smoked pot. Correlation between pot and junk food?

Also, went with Makers Mark 46.

Saturday I will share my experience. If I hate it how many more days shall I give myself?

That’s not going to help him keep the weight off.

I believe George Thorogood said it’s ok to have scotch bourbon and beer

If you're looking for something to replace beer and all those calories you may want to consider tequila. You can get a good anejo sipping tequilla in your price range or get a reposado and make a margarita with fresh lime juice and sprite zero. Skip the cointreau/grand mariner/triple sec they are loaded with sugar. Total Wine has a house brand called El Padrino. It's just as good as the name brands and its much cheaper. For sipping I get the El Padrino extra anejo.

For bourbon you don't need the expensive ones, makers 46 is very good so you did well there. I prefer rye over bourbon for a mixed drink. High West yipeee ki-yay and High West Rendeszvous are both excellent.

Forgot to add a much needed WARNING... drinking too much of the brown stuff can make you NUTS.... Frank the tank on steriods nuts... everyone has a brand that is banned because of this... for me its Blanton's. Love the stuff but it doesn't like me.

Also forgot to note that High West Bourye is also excellent... if you can find it.

Jim Beam-inexpensive and pretty smooth imo.
    Basil Hayden-More expensive, but nice!
    Bulleit
    Elijah Craig

    Irish Whiskey: all easy drinking.
    Tullamore Dew
    Jameson
    Proper Twelve

Scotch-Pricey and I tend to keep for special occasions.....like Saturdays.

There's really a ton of good ones.

Has anyone ever tried the single malts from Japan?

Yes, some nice stuff. But the one I remember most is from Taiwan, Kavalan. They did a stunning port cask one upwards of £50 a bottle though. I think they did a pleasant sherry finish too.

Why does @Brook! "wanna dump Bear" though? Are you using the whiskey to work up the courage to dump your bear? Did the bear cheat on you?

    We need to know.

Lol. Beer cheated on me of course. :)

Joking aside, beer will still stay in my life. During tailgates I will do beer, or after yard work I will do beer etc. All this after I lose weight and reach 176 LBS. Till then, I will try Bourbon/Scotch.

Be patient, similar to beer, different palates make for trial and error. I only drink Corona Beer, I have friends who only drink dark beers...etc

It takes time to find what you like, the Nip bottles are also a good way to get a taste for whiskey instead of buying expensive bottles of something you won’t like.

Yep. The liquor store owner also told me the same thing. He said give Makers Mark 46 a chance. If you don't like it, go with Nip bottles. He said he can get me anyone I want. Made the guy a ton of money with my heavy boozing back in the day. Lol
