    Teague put on PUP list

    By: Hoss Aultman

    Date: Jul 24, 2006

The Jets placed center Trey Teague on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list on Monday.

Teague suffered a broken ankle in minicamp, and likely will miss at least a few games at the beginning of the season.

With Teague out, the Jets will be forced to start rookie Nick Mangold, perhaps earlier than they would have hoped.

    Into the fire goes Mangold.

BTW, if Trey has to ice his ankle, is that iced Teague?

Don't hold your breath. Being a rookie, he'll more than likely get dominated this year. He's got the goods, but it's the experience he lacks. I wouldn't expect much out of him until he gets his feet wet, and that could take an entire season of growing pains....

Looking at the state of the Jets OL, I certainly wouldn't want to be one of the Jets QB's this season.....

Let's hope Katnik and/or Missant can step it up in training camp.

Maybe so, but this obviously ain't Europe. We could always use some depth though.

I'm more worried with how quickly he'll bounce back after this injury. Do you guys think fa-teague will be a problem?

    Good one.

If Teague misses a few weeks you can bet that his chances of getting that starting spot will be almost none, because I don't see it taking more than a few weeks for Mangold to adjust. The scheme is new to both of them, so after Nick gets the plays down I think he'll be there to stay.

I would love to have Brick and Nick for like 10 years on the O-line, and maybe a couple more guys along the way that will stay for a while...so we can get a real unit going...

Thank God, now hopefully he'll never be able to get the starting job back.

We Jets fans delude ourselves about a lot of things but first and foremost this offseason was Trey Teague as some sort of pro bowler, let alone NFL starter.

from what i've heard he's nothing special anyway. but don't think mangold will be better, he's a rookie and you can't expect miracles.

The Dolphins of 2006 aren't the Dolphin's of 1972 either.

I think either he or Katnik will do just fine. Obviously there will be some growing pains early, but the hardest part is handling the line calls. With Kendall right next to him helping out that shouldn't be too big of an issue....

at least with this happening Mangold can start training camp as a starter and get all the reps necessary. Its better then having Teague start and get injured in week 3 and Mangold is thrown in the fire.
