To get everyone in the mood:

I'm not sure if anyone else has found this site, but gives you a way to calculate how much cap room the Jets will have. Not sure the accuracy, but I'm going to go with it for now: http://overthecap.com/calculator/new-york-jets

    Cut/Don't bring back:

    Chris Johnson
    Kyle Wilson
    David Harris
    Calvin Pace
    Jason Babin
    Percy Harvin
    Michael Vick
Kyle Wilson again, just to prove a point

Based on this, we'd have $66mm in cap room for 2015.

    Resign/Restructure

Mo Wilkerson (raise 2015 cap hit to $15mm)
Damon Harrison (1st round tender, $3.5mm)
Jaquan Jarret (Original round tender, $1.5mm)
    Bilal Powell ($2.5mm)
    Tanner Purdam ($1mm)
    Nick Bellore ($1mm)
    Leger Douzable ($2mm)

So after the resignings plus a few other minimum guys, let's assume we have $45mm to play with.

    Free Agency
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (2 years, 2.5mm/yr
OG Clint Boling (4 years, 5.5mm/yr)
OT Bryan Baluga (3 years, 8mm/yr)
OLB Jason Worilids (4 years, 9mm/yr)
CB Antonio Cromartie (2 years, 5mm/yr)

So that leaves you with $15mm, figure $7.5 for draft picks, and the rest can either be used on veteran players or saved.

    Draft
    1) Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama.
    2) Alex Carter, CB, Stanford
    3) Jay Ajayai, RB, BYU
    4) Taiwan Jones, ILB, Michigan State
    5) Terry Williams, NT, East Carolina

    Depth:

    QB: Smith, Fitzpatrick, Simms
    RB: Ivory, Powell, Ajayi
    FB: Bohannon
WR: Decker, Cooper, Kerley, Owusu, Enuwa, Graham
    TE: Amaro, Cumberland, Pantale
    OT: Ferguson, Baluga
    OG: Boling, Giacomini/Oboushi
    OC: Mangold
    OL: Giacomini/Oboushi, Freeman, Dozier/Winters

    DE: Wilkerson, Richardson, Douzable
    DT: Harrison, Williams
    OLB: Worilds, Coples, Enemkpali, Reily
    ILB: Davis, Bellore, Jones
CB: Milliner, Cromatrtie, Carter, McDougle, Walls
    S: Pryor, Jarret, Allen

Obviously would be some more names so this isn’t a complete list. Need probably another safety, inside linebacker and another tackle on defense. I wouldn’t mind upgrading Cumberland at TE or picking up a better 4th wide receiver. But I think this is a route the Jets could go to start building a team that can contend in the near future.

A big hole at the second inside linebacker spot here unless you're expecting a 4th round rookie to come in and start right away which is a lot to bank on.

I'm also not a big fan of Worilds. He's a decent player but not at 9 million a year especially considering he puts up pretty average stat lines in an outside linebacker friendly system. Granted Harrison came back to play the other OLB spot but he came back because they weren't getting enough pressure. He's not big and powerful and he's not very fast. He is what he is: a decent player worth about $5 million at most who will cash in on double figures.

Worilds might cost more. With 45 million to play with i think we could be a little more aggressive... not a bad mock though

I think the monetary figures for cap space are about right. I like your cuts and re-signings, although Mo may be a little high (I hope). I think you have Fitzpatrick's contract a little on the low side and Cro's on the high side, but they would probably balance out.

If my math is correct, after your signings, we would have spent $56.5 million, leaving us only $9.5 million to work with to sign draft picks and emergencies. I like Baluga, but will be very surprised if GB doesn't re-sign him, and think he is a luxury the Jets can't afford since I believe he plays RT. Your signings don't address FS or ILB. You just can't go into a season without a legitimate FS on the roster and with no starting quality ILB at one position. I don't know much about Taiwan Jones, but if he is slow as I've seen suggested, then NO THANKS. We've been there, done that with Harris. I'd rather keep Harris for 1 more year than draft his replacement who is about as slow. The Jets have lots of holes. I think signing big ticket FAs would be a mistake. They need to improve the overall quality of the roster, depth and starters. I like the Boling signing, the Cro signing, and Fitzpatrick if Moore or Hill aren't available. I'd love Worilds if we didn't have so many other needs, but as it is, I just can't see our signing him. I'm saying that even though I've been screaming for a young, play-making OLB for years. We could get 2-3 quality players for what he will cost. I'd rather sign Sam Acho or a lesser young OLB FA and have money to sign a FS, a TE replacement Cumberland, and possibly another player (ILB or RB). The same goes for Bulaga. We aren't ready to compete for the SB, and your FA signings would indicate that you think we are.

I don't care for your draft picks at all outside of Cooper. We don't need another NT. That would be a wasted pick. If Jones is as slow as I've heard, no thanks. There a number of RBs I like better than Ajayi, and I'm not that high on the Stanford CB.

Why would you save $2.5 mil per year by cutting Chris Johnson only to give it to Bilal Powell?

We already have Harvin and there are a ton of WRs in the draft and free agency yet you feel compelled to take a WR with the #6 overall pick in the entire draft.

Harvin isn't being brought back according to this.

Where did the 7th round pick go to? Trade up?

Also would be asinine to cut Shaq Evans so soon, especially to keep TJ Graham and Ben Owusu.

Our QB situation goes from crappy to uninspiringly crappy.

Every time I see Ryan Fitzpatrick mentioned as a FA option, I think I lose one boner off the end of my life.

I'll be 90 trying to get it up and I'll be like FUCKING RYAN FITZPATRICK!!!

What if he looks horrible in this offseason again? The guy was a 4th round pick; they're not above getting cut in their second season, especially with a new regime

All in all this looks like a solid offseason.

I'd like to see another QB added. If Ryan Fitzpatrick was cut, which IMO I don't think he will unless Houston acquires another QB, he'd be my top free agent QB without a doubt.

Interesting to add an OG and OT via free agency, but I don't think it's realistic as there's a LOT of money tied up in this line and Giacomini seems like a less than probable cut given what he's owed. I could see Bulaga or Boling (who I doubt leaves, but who knows, really), but not both.

I'm okay with Worilds and would like Cromartie.

I really like the draft. Hard to be upset with Cooper. Carter looks like a good prospect (like the approach at CB with a vet like Cromartie and a Day 2 pick). Like Ajayi a lot and also Jones, but you can't count on Jones to start as a 4th round rookie, especially since he could be a 2-down player early on. Need to have another ILB there. No problem with a DL either as depth is important. Hard to judge later picks, really, and I haven't even read a blurb about Williams

I'd like to see Babin back as he's affordable and actually graded out as a very good OLB this year. I'd guess there's a chance he'd outplay Coples. Don't leave Marcus Williams off the depth chart. He really responded when he got his opportunity and certainly outplayed Darrin Walls. I actually don't have a big issue with Jarrett starting at FS, but some competition such as a draft pick would be nice.

Overall, looks pretty decent to me.

Like most of the moves but would rather get a pass rusher with first pick and get a WR like Strong at the top of the second. Also would rather draft an offensive lineman to give Aboushi competition than a RB and sign Roy Heli. Other than that, like it.

My point is that keeping Harvin or bringing in a free agent means not having to burn the #6 pick on a WR.
