https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2022/...round-selections-including-three-quarterbacks He has the Jets taking Wilson at #4 and J. Johnson at #10. He has KT going to the Giants at #7. He has 6 WRs and 6 Edges going in the 1st round. If the draft falls pretty much that way except that the Lions take KT and we take Sauce at #4 and Wilson at #10, we'd be probably be looking at Boye Mafe as our Edge, because he's definitely the best one left. Others that would still be available are Cam Thomas, Myjai Sanders, Sam Williams, and Nik Bonitto. I'd definitely want Mafe in that scenario. He has Ebiketie (whom I really like) going to the Chiefs at #30 and also getting Jameson Williams. KC would definitely get a lot better with those two picks. That, in a nutshell, is why imo the Jets shouldn't even consider taking Sauce Gardner. We need to get the Edge we want and the WR we want. I was pleased and surprised to see that neither Watson nor Pickens went in the 1st round, so if that's whom the Jets want at WR, they could still possibly get him at #35 and take Gardner, but that's still risky, and could cost us the Edge we want, or JD could even possibly pass on a trade down scenario to take Gardner. I say possibly because even though Atlanta took London at #8, their WR corps is so bad, they could easily double dip and take Watson or Pickens at #34, or some team could trade up ahead of us and take the WR we want. Thoughts? Comments?
Not surprisingly I don't agree with Tanny. Depending on what Douglas thinks about Becton I'd go two ways: A) JD thinks Becton will be ready and will return to form and become a long term answer at Tackle: If this is the case, I'd take Karlaftis at 4 and Williams at 10. B) JD has serious questions about Becton being able to come back: I'd take Neal or Ekwonu, whichever he thinks fits their scheme better, at 4 and Karlaftis at 10. But I still think Douglas has a trade back already in his pocket which will change the whole dynamic.
Tanny isn’t that far off I don’t think if we stand pat and Becton is healthy. if Becton is healthy they won’t touch the tackle spot till later in the draft where some good value is out there. I think the trade back is very likely if a big offer is on the table. I think he would slide back from 4 no further than 12 in that situation and still get 2 really nice players.
I wonder if any of the following teams try and move up to take a QB Houston- Do they really like Davis Mills that much? Do they wait till 2023? Atlanta (For Pickett or Willis)- I don't see them hanging their hat on Mariota Seattle (maybe for Willis or Corral) So they go into the season with Geno and Drew Pittsburgh- Mitchell and Mason? If they come up, I think we are in an ideal spot to trade down
at this point for me I'm thinking 4 KT 10 wilson or williams 35 Cine, brisker, or hill 38 travis jones then from 69 we can take a BPA type who falls for the last 4 picks RB, TE is value is there, another DT, and a developmental o-lineman. If we don't get a TE we could take a 2nd o-lineman. this way we can start to move on from guys like feeny, mcdermott, and GVR
Ya KT is looking good at 4 but like I said before I feel a trade coming there. Got to throw Burks in the mix at 10 even if you don’t want to, JD likes him and that can’t be ignored. in the second I see it as DT/CB/LB depending who falls in the 3rd I see it as TE or double dip at WR 4th I want Ford and Strange 5th swing for the fences on 2 boom or bust picks
I agree it looks like KT could fall to 4. I've heard rumors that the lions have fielded calls for 2 which tells me that teams are looking to move up for a QB and it could be with us at 4. possibly carolina or ATL or seattle. i don't think pitt moves up that far personally. as far as 10 goes it's likely a WR I agree the jets seem to like burks but based on rankings JD could be looking to move up from 35 into the 20s to get him. he isn't expected to go top 15 and probably not even top 20. He could be an option at 10 as well so who knows. with the 2 2nds I think DT is 100% needed. probably don't need a safety but i'm sure a good one will fall to us at 35 from the 1st or even at 38 possibly. for the 3rd I like the idea of dulcich or a WR who slipped. maybe even a calvin austin III. strange and ford would be a great 4th round for us 5th round could be a LBer here. doens't seem high on the jets list. they like mosley, sherwood and quincy. and we only use 2 LBers at a time most plays. we'll likely only carry 5. We could get a late guy there but I don't see a premium pick on one
Pitt can’t move in the top 5 it would cost 3 first rounders. I can’t see it either. 4 is tricky. Good to see ur more open minded to Carolina wanting to make moves or at least posturing that so a team like Atl/Sea goes for it. Ya if a guy like Elam or Dax falls they won’t pass but I’d like to see a DT in the mix within the first 5 picks 3rd is almost a gravy pick. Could be BPA literally my dream 4th 5th could be LB who knows.. maybe Safety or Corner too
we gave up so much in that darnold trade when i wanted to trade back and get lamaar or stand pat and get allen. that worked out so bad for us
Maybe with Zach Wilson at QB you really want two smaller quicker receivers who are threats downfield. Moore fits that bill and Wilson might be a coverage nightmare opposite Moore. Most teams do not have the defensive personnel to cover 2 quicksters without putting a 5th or 6th DB on the field.
